THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

Everyone had a lot of other things going on. All of us did.

[Oh, hi, ex-roomie, being frozen in time hasn't made you any less grumpy, huh? That's only going to draw a soft, fond laugh from Shindou.

He's so glad he didn't wake back up to find you were like six feet tall and the X-Men's new jet pilot or something, you don't even know.]

As long as we had enough people to play, I thought it was worth it.

[Nope, not gonna be less grumpy. Because the way to deal with stasis? Is clearly to act like nothing's happened and just go on the way you used to be so you don't freak yourself out at all. That's healthy, right?

[And he is never going to be six feet tall, Shindou. Never. He'll blame the stasis for it, or something.]

Yeah, well. You know I'm in, right? [It's as good as actually saying it was worth it. We're working with Toushirou, here. Since when does he say happy things?]

Of course. I'm excited to see how many of the old club's members we can get to play again.

[Then, with a sheepish not-quite-laugh:]

...And a little scared of how many might be old enough to coach us, now.

...I'm sure most of the ones who've graduated still keep in touch, though.

[Does he sound sure of that? Not even a little bit. School reunion-type stuff is a little less fun when half the conversations are bound to turn into, "Hey, remember that time we almost got blown up?"

And that's assuming that everyone who left after the Sentinel attack kept themselves safe out in the real world.]

I'd like to think they would, at least.

[That cheerful mood he was working on is officially spoiled, now. Thanks, 'Shirou.]

[Yeah, well. That's Toushirou -- expert at spoiling cheerful moods. Nice how some things don't change, huh?

[... No really, that sucks and he kind of feels bad about it. See, this is why he usually avoids this subject when he's talking to people. No good comes from it.] Well, they might. [An attempt to lighten things up just a bit. Yeah, it's super pathetic. Maybe a subject change is better.]

So you're still going into tenth, right? I've been skipped up into ninth.

Mn, that's right.

[He's not sure how to feel about that. Getting back to normal school life, after the way his first year ended, sounds great. But, jeez, even the youngest kids he knew before will be ahead of him now.]

So, you'll be starting high school? We could end up having class together, then, depending on what you take.

[Well, a class that isn't just the combat instructor wailing on them, that is.]

[Hey, man. At least your old wacky teammate isn't suddenly your biology teacher. That's weird as hell.]

Yeah. Usual stuff: math, biology, chemistry, world history, lit, and all that. Combat too, obviously; I need to get back in form.

[No, his old team leader is the Home Economics teacher, instead. Shindou definitely won't be learning how to cook this year.]

Sure. I still need to meet with someone about getting my schedule fixed for the semester. I've got more room for electives, after last year...[Not to mention how close he cut it, convincing his parents to even let him stay for another term.]

There's a lot to figure out before classes start.

[But, seriously, 'Shirou, have fun letting Fai explain the birds and the bees to you.]

[Yuui is comparatively sane, though. Also, you wouldn't be yelling at your teacher in the middle of class for being a moron because you used to have the authority to tell him what to do. Toushirou . . . probably will.]

And I've gotta find a new powers teacher.

[He didn't want the sex talk from Shego and he doesn't wanna learn the mechanics from Fai, either. His life sucks.]

Most of the staff will probably be new. It's been that long.

[Shindou's trying hard not to let this fact get to him, yet he can't help but sound wistful. He liked most of his teachers. They were as important as his classmates, at least.]

...I still can't believe that Principal Summers is gone.

[He's going to actively miss how Cyclops made his trainee team's life Hell every weekend. Getting beaten half to death by the Danger Room just won't be the same without the post-session lectures.]

Honestly, I'm trying to wrap my head around the concept of Fai being a teacher now. Not sure if it's working.

And I know. I would've thought if anyone was still around, it'd be him. [Because Principal Summers is the same kind of overly-responsible workaholic that Toushirou is. Going on leave? What's that?]

[And he feels you on that, bro. He's going to miss Shego. That's how bad this is.]

...That is hard to imagine. He must have impressed the Professor and Principal Munroe, though. He'd only have been done with college for about a year.

[Or maybe he's just gotten really good at that charm thing his power does. That's a little easier to see than the flighty upperclassman having turned into an ace student.]

It almost feels like we're here for the first time, all over again.

Or they were hard-up for teachers in those subjects. [He only half means it, really. He knows Fai has a brain, but the guy is also lacking in several areas he'd think are important to be a teacher already.] I'm in one of his classes. It's gonna be weird as hell.

... Yeah, almost. [But not quite.]
