THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!


Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag, as well as the weekly updates to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

"... Whoa-...!" Which is part 'whoa I almost hit something' and part 'whoa floating books' because at first glance Nora, who is, by the by, tiny and ridiculously strong herself, nearly either has run over the angel or almost been plowed into herself.

Except, instead of standing around and caring about social mannerisms like apologizing for getting in each others' way, she's instead circling the stack of books and looking at what's holding them up.

"OoooOOooo...!" And then she perks right up and looks at the young man nearby. "Who is this and why are they see-through?"

"Ah-!" Having to effectively control two bodies rather than one can make collisions a little easier, that much is true; Theo just about jumps back to avoid the oncoming run-in in startled shock, and his angel seems to fade for a split-second. Not enough to drop the books, mind.

Composure regained, Theo glances aside, a spot awkward under the gaze and brushes himself down. He wasn't expecting the question, though, and it takes him a moment to realise she's talking about - "Oh? It's a projection. In effect, an extension of myself." It nods to confirm.

"Oh, that's cool!" And here is a relatively short, ginger-haired girl making one more round to look it over.

Then, without warning, or other provocation, she stands up straight, hops in front of him, and extends a hand. "Hi! I'm Nora Valkyrie. I can't make projections, but I could probably heft like ten stacks of those books!"

Okay, he's not used to this level of - chirpiness in his face, let's say. But who's he if he's going to be put off by that? (A dork who's never really been in social situations before coming to the school? Perish the thought!)

"Really? My, that is a useful skill." He smiles, warmly. Taking her hand on cue - "My name is Theodore. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Her grip is... a little strong, but he can probably tell she's trying to hold back, so hopefully he can bear with it. "It's nice to meet you, too! So what grade are you in?"

She actually thinks he looks a little old to be a high school student like she is, but getting to know more about new friends is always a good thing!

Whoa, whoa: friends already? This is ... this is all a bit sudden! But he's not going to turn down the extended and rather strong, my, hand of friendship. He's put up with worse than her grip - nothing broken, he'll be fine!
"Ah. No grade as such," he says with a little headshake. "I'm here for the college classes." The textbooks he's carrying might confirm just that.

"Ohhh, I see. That's why you look a little older than people here," and in a surprising display of tact, she says nothing about the fact his hair is white. She lets go of his hand and stands at, what appears to be attention, looking right up at him. "Well, and you're really tall."

She is not. Nora is stuck at all of just barely 5'1". It makes the fact she can one-hand lift a car surprising to... mmmost people.

"Thaaat would also be why I haven't seen you around! But that's less fun. You college guys have such a different schedule than the high school. I mean, it's not bad, but what if some people wanted to talk to the older students about what the college is like and stuff - oh hey, is that a comic book?"

Annnd there goes Nora, sticking her nose right in the middle of the stack of books. It looks thin and magazine-y and comic-book-y. Maybe it's not, but it's got her attention either way.

First time someone's called him really tall - he's 5'10". Tall enough here, at least, but still... The hair, however, he's become fairly used to getting comments on. So there's a little bit of a surprised look there, which he brushes off his face quickly as the rush of chatter continues.

"It's only to be expected, but in this situation, I'd be glad to -" He's a spot lost trying to keep up. "Excuse me? Comic? I-" What could he even have that - oh! A glance across at what he's carrying and he remembers one of the things he picked up. "Oh, do you mean that magazine? Part of my research." History, to be precise.

"Oh. It looked like the second volume of the X-Ray and Vav complete collection," well, yes, now that she looks, it is a magazine. Darn. "Lots of big books here. Do you have a big paper due soon, then? I'm probably interrupting."

Yep. Rapid-fire changes of topic, Nora not really thinking before she does stuff, and a pint sized girl that can toss around large, heavy objects like they're nothing. Theo certainly has made a unique friend!

And no, she's not giving up on the friends thing.

Theo's ... starting to notice that much. Well.

"Rather big, yes. But there's no need to worry - you're hardly bothering me." He's got this! He can handle it! ... Okay, he probably does need to get some sleep sometime while he's doing it, but such things are minor details that shouldn't concern either of them.

Really.

"No? Alright," she looks at the books, looks at him, and realizes she has no actual topics to continue this conversation and it's about to get awkward, quickly.

"Um! ... But do you ever read comic books?"

Wow. An actual, cyclical thought for once.

He shakes his head. "I've been interested in doing so, but I've never had a good opportunity to collect any." The side effects of growing up in the middle of nowhere. Somewhat of a lack of reading material that isn't 'worthwhile'... and, in his case, a lack of a private enough hiding place to stash it when he's got it. "There is the graphic novel selection here, I suppose, but it is - rather hard to know where to start." Minor difficulty, but still...

"Oh! That's cool. I had a friend that was a really big fan of X-Ray and Vav at my old school... before I decided I wanted to be an X-Man and came here, and that's partially why I kind of got into it," Perfect; she has a topic, she'll charge right on ahead with it. "Well, and I've always loved X-Men and the Avengers, too! My favorite there was Thor. Like. He's always been the best, though I do like the Hulk, too, I've always wanted to meet them, and maybe if I become an X-Man, I'll get the chance!

... Anyway, I have kind of a collection of them myself, and I'd always be happy to share what I have!" She bounces on her toes a little as she finishes, hands behind her back.

"The offer's very much appreciated," Theo responds with a polite smile. "Do you ... want to become an X-Man just to meet them, though? It seems like rather a lot of work for just that..."

Honestly, the hero gig's not something he's that interested in - though he'd be just as glad to find anything that he knows he'll be happy doing in the long run. His courses interest him, sure, but where to go from there?

"Huh? No, no, not just for that. I've got plenty of other reasons to be an X-Man! Like beating up the bad guys, getting a cool code name, getting to be as strong as I can be," she chirps, and she's a little bouncy on her toes. "And, you know, if I get to meet Thor along the way... that's just even better! Oooo, and the Hulk. I always did want to get into an arm wrestling competition with him!"

Man, the perkiness is enough to almost have him bouncing. "Pushing one's limits? I can certainly agree with you there. What is life without a challenge? Or without a meaningful goal?" One that has him floundering a bit, that's for sure.

"Yeah! Well, that and I just wanna know how strong he really is," she giggles, and moves from bouncing on her toes to swaying back and forth. She really did want to know; after all, there was only so much training she could do against her friends and her martial artist BFF-slash-she-promises-they're-not-together-in-THAT-way-together. "Also... he's a childhood hero, you know? You should always try to meet your heroes if you can!"
