Character Name: Gilbert Cocteau

Canon: Kaze to Ki no Uta

Brief Personality: Cool, haughty, and devious. Gilbert presents himself as a cultured child of French high society (which is sort of true), but underneath that is a suspicious and defensive youth with a very delicate sense of pride and a hedonistic streak that's far too developed for his age. He's quick to flirt, quicker to form a grudge, and, as a avowed junior mutant supremacist, has no taste for things like "human morals" or "social decency." He's a very difficult kid, in other words...though, underneath that, there's a thoroughly abused and poorly socialized child who really doesn't know much else.

Brief AU History: Gilbert's the bastard son of an aristocratic, French family. His empathic powers manifested at birth, nearly driving his mother to murder him in his crib, after which his legal parents abandoned him, leaving him to be cared for by servants at their Marseilles estate. Eventually, those servants were replaced by his mutant supremacist "uncle" Auguste, who abusively raised him to despise human society.

After Gilbert was violently abducted by an acquaintance of Auguste's who recognized the boy's powers, the pair relocated to Paris, where Gilbert was briefly the darling of some of the city's artistic circles. But, by that point, his relationship with Auguste had grown deeply twisted, and he ended up fleeing their home to seek refuge with a local commune of mutant artists. Auguste sought to reclaim him, leading to a public clash that the Cocteau family was forced to cover up in the media...and to their insistence that something be done about Gilbert to keep them out of their hair. This led to him being shipped off to America and the Xavier Institute.

Joined School: February of this year! He'll be arriving as of his first posts around the school.

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Anything, but a few things in particular:

1. People appointed to look out for him! The Institute probably has some inkling that Gilbert's been seriously abused, and they're definitely aware that he's a problem child with no formal schooling and a very powerful, psychically invasive mutation. So...guidance counselor meetings? Mandatory tutoring sessions? Maybe a "study buddy" assigned to make sure he actually does him homework and goes to class? Anything like that would be great. Fair warning that these would also be the most thankless tasks in the world, because Gilbert will reflexively hate them.

2. People he can manipulate empathically! Gilbert has very few qualms about turning his powers on others. He honestly doesn't even really get the idea that there's something wrong about it, most of the time? So, he will have no qualms about playing with other characters' emotions to get what he wants out of them. (There's a permissions post for his powers here!)

3. Enablers! Let him tell you all about how terrible humans are. Cut class to drive him into the city. Break into the X-Jet's hangar; I bet no one's ever snuck in there to make out, right? Basically, if your character's ever wanted a "friends like that aren't your friend" kind of friend, Gilbert's got you covered! Alternatively, people to see through his shit and call him out on it.

4. And possibly just the rare almost-friend or two who can actually manage to deal with him without setting him off. People who can make him tea and carry on a one-sided conversation are encouraged to apply.

Character Name: Shindou Takuto

Brief Personality: Shindou's a serious and polite teenager who focuses a lot on his responsibilities to others - family, schoolmates, adults, etc. He tries very hard to put up a strong front so he won't let anyone down! But he's also a very emotional and (prior to his arrival at the Institute) rather sheltered, little rich kid who likes classical music and cats and sometimes get overwhelmed and just wants to cry or hit someone while blasting Beethoven. Or something like that. He's got a clever, strategic mind but is none-too-worldly, can be rigidly assertive in the face of one conflict and threatening to disappear off into a corner in tears come the next.

Brief AU History: From a fabulously, stupidly wealthy, Japanese background. Grew up in Tokyo, didn't have any problems hiding his powers until a shady group scouting for mutants outed him in front of his school's soccer club. Became mildly famous for his school winning a national football/soccer championship with open mutants on the team roster...and also for helping to shutter an abusive training center for young mutants run by said shady organization.

Afterwards, joined Xavier's and gradually got drawn into joining up as an X-Men trainee. Saw field action on at least a few occasions before Jean Grey went all Phoenix and froze him in time for a few years. Is back after five years of stasis as of the start of this term and gradually getting back into the swing of things.

Joined School: Fall Semester, 2012, as a high school freshman. Re-joined at the start of the current school year as a sophomore. He's one of the kids who were stuck in stasis following the Phoenix Incident.

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Hit me up for anything, but here's a few specific things!

1. X-Team Stuff! Still want a Danger Room log or something along those lines this month? And they also need to get to recruiting a fifth member. Any other shenanigans are welcome as well!

2. Weapon training! After the mission in January, Shindou's looking for ways to make himself more useful in combat situations, which means going into them armed. Looking to have him pick up some kind of (preferably non-lethal) weapon, so anyone willing to teach or spar with him there would be good.

3. Negative CR! I'd love to bring out more of Shindou's emotionally pent-up side into the game, and, while he's generally a live-and-let-live kind of kid, when someone gets on his bad side he's royally stubborn about keeping them there. So, please get on his bad side.

4. Also just general teenage shenanigans and soccer club stuff. Life can't be all drama and superhero action.

Character Name: Al Swearengen

Brief Personality: Al is crass, scheming, self-interested above all, and borderline amoral. He fancies himself the kind of guy who will cut any throat that needs cutting if it gets him ahead, mostly because he is that exact kind of guy. But he also sees the long game well, which leads him to preferring to make things work smooth and peaceful when that suits his purposes better, and he has something of a mentoring side, especially as far as more "misfit" types are concerned.

He also swears like an old-timey prospector updated to modern times, so beware.

Brief AU History: Al's old. In his life, he's been made an orphan, wandered much of the western U.S. living a life of super-powered crime, then moved into NYC and started the first openly mutant-oriented bar in what's now District X. Said joint conveniently served as a front for his operation dealing drugs, running prostitutes, and doing a bunch of other unsavory shit at first, but over time it's turned into a (more or less) legitimate operation.

Al briefly taught a class on "powerless survival skills" at the Institute about five years back, but he left around the unveiling of Project Wideawake to deal with increased anti-mutant violence in and around District X, where his influence helped keep anti-mutant sentiment from spilling into any especially open bloodshed and halted violent efforts to evict the mutant population from much of the District. He was recently invited back to the school to teach a class on armed combat.

Joined School: Originally, about five years ago. Most recently, towards December of last year.

FOR RETURNING CHARACTERS any important information to fill in between the last time the game was open and now?: Al's still shady as hell, but he's pretty much dispensed with all the outright illegal side of his operations by now. He's still running Gem, his District X bar, but it's pretty much legit at this point. He also did some good work preventing the District's residents from being muscled out by big corporations looking to redevelop the bit of NYC they live on, so...yay for keeping our violent, crime-riddled slums safe and sound?

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Al moonlights between teaching armed combat at the Institute and running his bar in District X, so he's a potential link to the mutant community there for folks wanting to do stuff in that neighborhood. He's also prone to taking young scoundrels/misfit-types under his wing, so shady mentoring can be a thing. Maybe even at some point there could be the start of a rough-and-tumble team forming under his watch? Al would hate that, so it would be hilarious.

Character Name: Kanji Tatsumi

Brief Personality: On the outside, a loud, impulsive, foul-mouthed bruiser with a short temper, a punk who takes no nonsense from anyone. But get past that and underneath is a loyal and reliable young man who just wants to do something good with what he sees as the bad hand he's been dealt, and a skilled craftsman who's a sucker for all things cute.

Brief AU History: Born in rural Japan, his mutation became obvious at about ten years old. He and his mother moved to the USA roughly two years ago after anti-mutant sentiment came to a head in their town. Spent the next couple of years pushing people away to avoid the risk of his powers becoming known, getting a bit of a bad reputation with it - but wound up using them anyway to wreck a biker gang that had been causing havoc for his ma's peace and quiet. The incident was enough to get him transferred to Xavier's, where he's been trying to get his act together ever since...

Joined School: Last September

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Always up for friends and the likes for this boy! Hang-out friends, crafty friends, classmates, study buddies who can poke his ailing grades in some classes?
Someone to help him explore his powers further than just "I can zap stuff"? Also, as with his team-mate above, weapons tuition past his default "hit things hard with other things"?
Kind of interested in heading into the realms of romance with him, but it's a complex topic due to both his powers making a relationship hard and his complete lack of understanding of his own sexuality. Actually, he could use someone to help him sort his feelings on that topic out...

Brief Personality: Rinka is a kindhearted and empathic person. She is really protective of her friends and has absolutely no patience for bullies. If she sees something wrong, she'll try to do something about it, whether that means kicking ass and taking names or providing a shoulder to cry on.

Brief AU History: Rinka grew up poorer than a church mouse. Her ex-cop father was pushed out of the police force for trying to root out corruption (and for being a mutant) and afterwards couldn't hold down a steady job. By high school Rinka was working part-time at a restaurant to make ends meet. By chance she encountered a boy just as her mutant powers emerged, and he soon had her running around Tokyo as a mutant vigilante duo, protecting the public from mutants who were misusing their powers. Trained from childhood in martial arts by her father, Rinka is a capable fighter, even without her mutant power.

Joined School: Beginning of September, this school year

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Rinka is a very active girl! She needs running buddies for her early morning runs. I'm also looking for sparring buddies for her as well, for both aikido and kali/eskrima.

She's on Shindou's training team, and on the weekends she works at a fancy-schmancy cafe in town.

Rinka needs female friends to be girly with, b/c atm most of her CR is male. :|

Brief Personality: Alex is charming, but reserved. Outside of sports teams, he has trouble working as part of a group. He is self-reliant and independent to a fault. But even though he tries to present a carefree and nonchalant attitude, his cynicism often peeks through.

Brief AU History: Alex grew up in London, England with his uncle, Ian. Life was great until his uncle died shortly after Alex turned 14. As it turned out, Ian was a spy. And a mutant. Plus, Ian's boss knew all about the fact Alex was a mutant. Through some very underhanded emotional manipulation, Alex was forced to became an operative. Over the next year and a half, he completed nine 'missions'. Some were at the behest of MI6, and for some he was 'loaned out' to other agencies, including the CIA and the ASIS. This all concluded last summer with the worst 'mission gone wrong' ever. MI6 reluctantly terminated its usage of Alex and allowed him to move to the States. He attempted to attend a 'normal' school at first, but various events changed his mind.

Joined School: Beginning of October, this school year

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Alex is heavily involved in sports. He's fantastic at soccer, not bad at tennis, and enjoys rowing. He's also really good at snooker, so if someone teaches him American pool, he'll probably be pretty good at that too. Biking, skiiing, scuba diving, you name it he's probably tried it. He also studies karate and is a black belt.

Alex is dealing with a lot of emotional trauma right now. Guidance counselor characters, someone is going to end up with this mess.

Brief Personality: Uh. She's energetic, sporadic, and about as subtle as a bull in a china shop.

Brief AU History: Grew up with a friend that's totally only a friend she promises there's nothing more to it, became a huge Thor fangirl, wants to join the X-Men cuz she likes property damage and also maybe cuz she wants to help people after being pushed away for her mutation, her family got super distant when her mutation came to light. Also, her dad was an army engineer and that's why she has Magnhild. Fear for your lives that she has it.

Joined School: At the beginning of High School, so she's actually been here for three years.

If you become her friend, be warned, she will get terrified you might hurt yourself or die.

Brief AU History: Aspiring musician who has been at the school for a while, both asleep and as a student before the Phoenix incident. Other than her boyfriend before the Phoenix incident giving up and killing himself, she's had a remarkably uneventful life as a mutant. Well, barring the mutant bits.

Brief AU History: Created in a lab. Killed a lot of people. No really, a lot of people. Just trust me it was a lot. Escaped, ran free for a while. Hunted by like everyone. Joined the school, used the phoenix incident to fake her death. Came back when things started getting real.

Brief Personality: Skaar the boy is a quiet, introverted, thoughtful young man who has an affinity for animals and just wants to live a happy life with his father. But there's more than one Skaar. Skaar the Hulk is a brash man of few words who believes in acting rather than talking. The two are separate yet the same, sharing a mind but having distinct interests and personalities.

Brief AU History: Born out of wedlock to a woman Bruce Banner met during his wanderings trying to protect the world from himself, Skaar's appearance was different at birth though his ability to transform didn't manifest until he was a bit older when he and his mother were in danger. Sadly, she died and Skaar eventually found himself wandering the Siberian wilderness, living like an animal.

Only through chance did he happen upon a television broadcast that showed the Hulk, who Skaar instinctively recognized as his father. After a rather violent first meeting, the two patched things up and Bruce recommended the Xavier Institute to help Skaar learn more about the world and hopefully make friends his own age.

Joined School: Skaar was actually one of the students currently enrolled when the Phoenix Incident occurred and was one of the many who fell into suspended animation only to just now awaken.

FOR RETURNING CHARACTERS any important information to fill in between the last time the game was open and now?: Nope, just napping the whole time!

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Saying I'm looking for everything is a bit lazy even if it is true. Getting Skaar on a team for missions and such is one thing I'd definitely like to do. Also would definitely like CR in the form of friends as well as negative CR for those who he might not get along with!

Brief Personality: A straight-laced but spunky girl, she has been through a lot and has a huge heart. She will be your greatest ally if she calls you a friend, and will not refuse to stand down if you tick her off.

Brief AU History: Born into a military family and had to deal with the tension of a one-parent household. Dad went into a major depression after mom died and was neglectful but not abusive. Eventually brought over to Japan where her powers surfaced. Went to a medical facility which was a front to wrangle mutants to an underground fight-to-the-death complex. Spent three years there having not seen anybody until she finally managed to escape. Good times.

Plans/CR seeking/other ideas: Honestly, I plan on crashing back into this game and seeing what happens. I'd like her to find friends and somebody for her to hound to live on the straight and narrow. And maybe somebody to spar with in a way that isn't a crime against humanity.
