THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

"Oi-"

It's one of the few things before there's something of a firmness on Kanji's arm. Not something necessarily forceful, but it was definitely someone's attempt at getting the student to pause (albeit with more strength than one would expect from a rather casual action.) Even more, there was the smell of something faintly burning much like when people do get shocked from using bare hands when fixing electronics. The taller blond didn't seem to be too concerned about the jolt. Really, looking at the grip would show that he wasn't even really holding, so much as Shizuo's hand being there.

"Weren't you taught- ah," he started with less than adept English before trying to make sure what he said was done so right. It'd been a while since he had those classes, so he was making an effort to improve and stick to the language as a respect to where the institute was. Reconfirming that it sounded right enough, he picked back up after the moment of consideration, "yeah, you don't run in halls.

Whoa! He definitely wasn't expecting that. Someone grabbing him? Like that? There's something he's not used to for sure. (Honestly, neither is having someone taller than him doing the grabbing...)

He looks aside with a scowl. "Tch. Yeah, alright." Perhaps he'd been a bit carried away, there.

It's even weirder because he really isn't reacting to at all. Shizuo drops his hand only due to the fact that it had gotten Kanji to stop running through the halls. Not being one of the teachers and only one of the newer faculty additions, it wasn't his place to lecture or reinforce rules. It was just that... He was taught that you weren't supposed to run indoors.

"Good," he responded as if there were no scowl there in the first place. May as well make sure no trouble was about to come up, not realizing that the sparking arms were the problem. "Anyway. What's the rush?"

"Lost somethin'," Kanji responds with a sigh. "Protective gloves." Okay, he's probably doing more damage running around like that than actually just staying calm and looking for them, but dammit! They're his lifeline around here!

Normally, people would hear that and see just why the teen was in a rush. Because it's logical and understandable. It's normal logic. Shizuo's logic center wasn't necessarily wrong, but it's not right in the right way. So instead of understanding, the guy had a glare that could be read through the purple sunglasses than before. Shizuo didn't realize who they were meant to protect, as he wasn't really paying attention to what happened when he grabbed Kanji's bare arm, but he had enough of an idea to be annoyed.

"If they're protective, then you really shouldn't be running around in the first place," he said with constraint. Not exactly an emotion that should be reigned in right as it comes up, but it being there in the first place was weird enough. Yet getting that out was enough to say something calmer and more understanding. "The storage rooms should have something until you find your gloves. Y'know where those are?"

The glare just gets a glare right back. Geez, he'd thought he could get away without people acting like he kicked their puppies in a freaking school for mutants...

He gives a bit of a 'tch' at the logic in the first case. Yeah, yeah. Perhaps. But the second point - "Ain't got a clue," he says with a shake of his head. At least it's helping solve his problem, though. "Any near here?"

"Yeah. C'mon then, I'll take ya over" he said as if the glare-off hadn't even happened for that one moment before. Scratching the back of his head, Shizuo turned around to head down the hall for the storage room. After passing a few doors, he opens the following for the student to head in first. "I think they said something about a bunch being through the entire place. Guess stuff like this happens a bunch."

Now he says that... "Yeah, guess it would, now ya mention it," Kanji says, following along. After all, if he can end up with something like he has, there's got to be so many others running around. (Honestly, he's never really thought about what powers are even out there.)

Shizuo doesn't really share any examples, however that's mostly because he hasn't been around long enough to give any. Instead he slides out a couple of boxes around hip level to check for what's inside. "Oh yeah. What kind of gloves do you need?"

"Got any insulated ones in there? Rubber ones?" he asks, peering over to see what's on offer. "I, uh, shock people. ... Most people."

"Most? Huh," he cluelessly responded, giving a quick glance up before shifting through the box. The first thing he saw was a one of those bright yellow gloves meant for dish washing. The one to its pair could've been deeper in the box. "Would this kind do good enough?"

Well, most people don't just no sell grabbing him, he thinks... but not the point. The point is not shocking anyone else. He frowns slightly at the glove - "It ain't perfect, but... it'll do for now."

Handing over that first glove, he starts pushing the others to the side until he finds the other half. It'll only take a couple of seconds, but it's long enough for a question to come up. A genuine one as well, as he asks without judgement or mocking in his voice. "If those gloves are important, then why'd you take them off around campus?"

Pulling them on with a measure of relief, here, but he's a little grumbly as he explains after a pause - "I was - workin' on something. Was somewhere quiet, I didn't think I was gonna run into anyone... I thought it was just gonna be for a second, but... didn't work out like that, huh."

"So they ain't lost," he almost seemed like that was a positive thing out of the entire answer. Shizuo knew really well how things don't work out how they should. Mostly that was because someone had a hand in making sure things didn't pan out smoothly, but still. "The gloves'll just be where you started working on whatever it was before."

Sounds easy in concept.

"I thought so too..." He thinks back briefly. "They just weren't when I got there."

That didn't seem so bad, if only because Shizuo expected that this place had a bunch of good people living around. Not everyone obviously, because he ended up going here now, but he figured most people were the type to do the right kinda thing. "Someone might've found and brought them in. Ah, maybe some kind of lost and found?"
