THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

The word you're looking for is 'persuade'.

[She had to check her dictionary real quick to make sure.]
turbedon: (act like this)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah.

... Then what's suade? Making your own decision without any influence from people around you?
frigokinetic: (What? ❄︎ you'll never forget)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[She checks the dictionary again.]

Apparently, it used to mean 'persuade'... but for some reason, no one uses it anymore.

(I am using a dictionary. I don't actually know this from memory.)
turbedon: (our only hope)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
See, that's just complicating things for no reason. If suade and persuade are the same thing, why add per to suade?

...English is a very strange language. I am still in the process of learning, but I'm pretty sure that most of these rules were made for pointless reasons.
turbedon: (act like this)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's my first language and I still think it's weird.
frigokinetic: (Smile ❄︎ How to pretend you're fine)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear you agree.

[She was beginning to think she was just bad at it...]
turbedon: (and they'll show us)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Try explaining how to use 'the' to someone who's mother tongue is an East Asian language. Reeeaaally not that simple.

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
East Asian languages are very different from ours, yes. My original one is Norwegian, so it could be worse.
turbedon: (Default)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Norwegian, huh? That's rough. Still, you seem pretty fluent with English. When'd you start learning?
frigokinetic: (Explain ❄︎ and never get too close)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
When I was young. My family has books of many languages in our library, including dictionaries and grammatical books, so I have been able to learn how to read. But I have never had the chance to speak it until coming to America.

[She still mispronounces words and mixes up grammar far more often than she'd like, though.]

turbedon: (that kills the pain)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You learned a new language just from reading some books and dictionaries, WITHOUT a teacher?

I'm officially amazed. That's some dedication right there.
frigokinetic: (Oh no ❄︎ I'll teach you all this)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...Well, it was also part of my schooling.

My parents wanted me to work in diplomatic relations when I got older, so they encouraged me to learn it.
turbedon: (Default)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you could've done a different Germanic language for diplomacy and suffered much less for it.
frigokinetic: (Explain ❄︎ and never get too close)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Many countries are beginning to use English as the standard. I know some other languages as well for those who do not.
turbedon: (and they'll show us)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. Guess you're on top of being good with the language part of diplomacy at least then.
frigokinetic: (Smile ❄︎ How to pretend you're fine)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I am, yes.

Do you know any others?
turbedon: (never meant the same)

[personal profile] turbedon 2014-10-04 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand a few, but actual ability-wise I'm starting to get pretty fluent with French and German. Think I'll try for Japanese next.
frigokinetic: (Smile ❄︎ How to pretend you're fine)

[personal profile] frigokinetic 2014-10-04 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I am learning German as well. Maybe we could practice on each other some time, if you want to.

That'd be great.
