THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

Takakage looks thoughtful for a moment. "Do you have plans to acquire a breathing sphere or something of the sort?" He won't be around to help her all the time, that's for sure.

"Well, there are the classrooms and faculty housing, but I doubt you will be interested in accessing them." Seeing that she probably lives in the lake and all. "There is a quiet garden some distance off from the main building, though. I can bring you there, if you'd like." He helps to maintain it, so it's with a bit of pride that he mentions it to her.

"Oh, that sounds nice. Lead the way."

She smiles. Her teeth are sharp.

"I suppose I should introduce myself. That's what you're supposed to do, right? I'm Naija."

Yes, that's what you're supposed to do.

He isn't perturbed by her teeth. After all, he has seen individuals who look much less human than she does.

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Naija." He pronounces her name with a faint hint of a Japanese accent - it comes close to how she says it, but not quite. "I am Takakage Kobayakawa. I teach Biology and Chemistry here."

The walk to the gardens isn't very long, but they still have some time to talk before reaching it.

"Oh, then I suppose we'll be working together. When I'm done learning basic surface ettiquette, I'm to begin teaching swimming and underwater combat."

It feels strange to think that she'll be instructing anyone, with as much as she doesn't know even about herself, but Xavier's logic is 'who better than a native?', so she doesn't mind.

The way she says it implies that she has not had much contact with humans. It's reasonable to expect that, given her physical form.

"Ah, those will be important if we are assigned a mission in amphibian environments." He replies with a nod. "Might you be, ah, residing near the lake? I often visit it after lessons, so we may meet each other quite often."

He has a habit of going sailing or swimming whenever he feels like it, too. Another quirk that comes from being a reincarnated self of a historical naval commander.

"In it! Mister McCoy even made me a..." A pause while she remembers the right word. "...computer that works down there. Do you go there to swim? To fish?" Which is more than just an idle concern for her. She doesn't want to end up with a hook in her mouth.

It's reasonable to expect Naija to live inside it, seeing that her form is semi-aquatic. Then, he might have a chance of accidentally running into her... house, if it could even be called such a thing.

"Swimming, yes. And sailing." He has no intention of fishing at all - best to leave the ecosystem as it is. "I can breathe underwater to some extent, so it's not a problem for me."

It could! By this point she's no doubt accumulated an entire underwater thrift store's worth of tchotchkes down there.

"Oh, then you have to come down and visit. It's nice meeting people up here but they must think me so clumsy..."

"Perhaps when we are both free, yes." He's curious, but his schedule rarely leaves time for him to spare except in the evenings - and visibility isn't usually all that good.

"Ah, it's reasonable. I'm sure you'll adjust in time."

"This must be it." She says, stepping quickly through the doorway to the garden when they get there, eager to see.

The garden is quite large, with a variety of flowerbeds and other shrubs. The plants are all curated neatly without a single branch out of place, and it's evident that they're well-watered and taken care of. There is a pond a ways off the side with koi fish swimming in it, as well as a shaded pavilion with tables and chairs for use.

"Yes, it is." He says this with a subtle hint of pride. "How do you think of it?"

"Oh, it's pretty..."

Naija's eyes widen, under their nictating membranes. Her hands run over the plants, teasing the leaves as if there were small animals in there she could flush out of hiding.

Then she notices the fish and her stomach rumbles.

He notices it, too.

"... please refrain from eating them."

They are rare fishes, after all. And he'd prefer to not see them killed.

"Well I wouldn't just go into your garden and eat your food..." She says, all huff and completely missing the point.

Then she finds the flowers, and a bed that hasn't bloomed yet. She kneels, touches it, and sings, a clear, resonant note, like a bell. The flower opens.

That manages to elicit surprise and a little wonder from him - and the scientist in him instantly kicks into gear. Her power might have further applications, and it's something he is very curious about.

"If I may ask - how did you do that?"

She seems puzzled that nothing had popped out of it. Nevertheless she looked up at him, squatting on her heels.

"Plants respond to certain notes. Fish too."

"I see." It seems that she has power through song. It's a concept he hasn't explored before.

"Your music can affect living things, yes?"

"Yes." She sniffs at the flower, then stands. Pollen is bright yellow on her nose. "But I don't know all the ways it can."

That's entirely reasonable. Most people do not know the true extent of their abilities.

"It's useful, though." And somehow, beautiful, in a philosophical sort of way. She can link with other beings in a way different from telepaths, and that's something that brings her closer to nature.

"I suppose so. I can do lots of things with vibration. For instance, I can make soup with my hands the way you use a..." She's stuck on the word. It takes her a few seconds. "A blander!"

Blender, Naija.

His first thought would be the dubious hygiene that came with said soup, but he quickly casts it aside and focuses on things he can actually give voice to.

"I believe it is pronounced as 'blender'." He says this gently, without annoyance.
