THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

No, just checking to make sure our intrepid janitor wasn't going insane. You know what they say about talking to oneself. [Shrug.]

Just a bad habit. [He shrugs as if that makes it any less weird.] I'm used to having someone to talk to.

[Someone who is not there and very well might never have been, but Booker prefers to tell himself she somehow was real. That makes him feel less crazy.]

Mm. [He knows that feeling. There are times when he still pauses to look around expecting Braska or Jecht to pop up somewhere.] You could try talking more to those present rather than those that aren't.

Gee. [He doesn't sound impressed with that. He rarely talks to people other than himself, mainly because he expects Elizabeth to reply but also partly because he has much less interest in what anyone else might tell him. So far Elizabeth's been the only one to give him answers he likes.]

Who am I supposed to talk to if I'm the only one that cares what I'm saying, then? [He makes it sound like a joke but really, he just doesn't expect anyone to put up with him. He doesn't even put up with himself.]

No one if you keep that mentality. [He's a mature man, he will not roll his eyes no matter how tempted he might be. Still, Booker looks like he's not exactly having a great day... He unhooks the large bottle of sake from his belt and holds it out for the janitor.]

[He's tempted to admit he has his own booze... a lot of his own booze... but Booker is a man of temptation and bad life choices. He takes the bottle and indulges gratefully.]

Folks like me work better on that mentality. [He hands the bottle back, now missing half of its contents.] Simpler for everyone that I keep to myself.

[He takes a moment to shake his bottle, feeling and hearing the significantly reduced liquid sloshing about inside. Well, he'd just have to refill it later.]

Until things get too much and you've become a fuse waiting for just one spark.

[He knows what that's like.]

[This gives him pause. He knows what that's like too, and he's used to using it to his advantage. Taking it out on the people he's hired to. But he is trying to convince himself he's retired from violence. And that means he no longer has that outlet.

He scratches his stubble idly.] When it gets too much I'll hope the danger room can take a one-man army.

So far it has. [He shrugs a bit - he checked when he had a particularly bad time getting away from ghosts of the past.] But if you do manage to destroy it, at least Xavier isn't lacking in funds for repairs.
