THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

[Just something to do other than wander the infirmary like a nervous ghost all the time.]

[ Speaking of which. ] Quite regrettably, I have little of free time, so I might not be able to come down all that often. [ Even though he teaches only two classes he has the library to look after, as well as a master class on top of work at the hospital. ]

...does the hospital know you're a mutant?
no subject
[ Sure, he does use his skills during surgery and diagnosis, but subtly enough to pass it off as simply putting in more effort. He's just more careful than other doctors, that's all. ]
no subject
Sorry, it's not really my business...

Plus... he sort of had it better than Zian, who would be spotted instantly. But that only made his past all the more painful. ]

[In all honestly his father might have managed to stay under cover for a long time, but things got a little chaotic back in Russia.]
I admit to never actually having seen a true hospital. It's mostly been small clinics.

A hospital is a very large clinic - you can think of it as multiple clinics, in fact, each one specializing in a different area of medicine. Of course, there are general practitioners to field walk-in patients as well as more experienced ones in the Accident and Emergency department, but mostly it functions as a collective place for specialists to come together. Most sub-fields of medicine are connected, after all.

[Guess who watched ER religiously as a kid.]
Did you want to do that water scan or did you do it already and I didn't feel a thing?
no subject
[ Zian's second statement does remind him, though. ] Ah, not yet. It might take a while, kindly tell me when you're ready.
no subject
[Not everyone can know their patients by name and babysit their kids on Sundays, Zian. Pretty sure that's just a morlock thing.]
Oh! [He almost hits a hand on a nearby lamp as he signs, still not quite used to the area.] Yes, I'm ready. Should I stand.. or sit.. or lie down?
no subject
[ He looks a little alarmed when Zian nearly knocks over the lamp, but as soon as the other man is clear he relaxes and returns to his usual calm expression, ] Whichever is comfortable for you. It will not take too long.
[ It doesn't matter what pose Zian is in. After all, his scan isn't a planar one - he can do it from any angle. ]

Okay! I have to admit that this is really interesting. If you can use that power to find out what's wrong with someone, I'm sure I can heal it more effectively. Teamwork and all that!

Alright. Please hold still.
[ Takakage closes his eyes, exhaling deeply as he extends his awareness outwards. Zian's water signature is easy to lock onto, but discerning its specific structure will take some time - especially given the other's distinctive anatomy.
It takes a while - around five minutes to fully register everything. Most of Zian's organs are in the right place, but Takakage can 'see' where the surgery had corrected some flaws here and there. He looks up again after he's done, a little tired out from the effort. ]
That should be it. You are in quite good shape, I must say.
[ Everything's working properly and merrily. ]

Maybe he could convince the other guy to come with him to the morlocks some time and work that power there as well. (...or maybe not. They tended to be violent to outsiders.)
Zian did have a somewhat unique anatomy both due to his mutation and the medical corrections and removals his father had made when he contracted the Contagion - but aside from being a little bit underweight due to being an idiot and forgetting to 'eat' sometimes, he was otherwise in top shape for a young man his age. It was nice to hear it from a third party.]
Thank you! I try to keep busy and do some exercise.
ps: congrats on getting in!!! \o/
That is good. [ Takakage says this with a nod. ] I'm sure you'll set an excellent example for our students.
[ He's half-jesting, of course. Most of them don't exactly eat balanced diets, but as X-men they would need to at least be decently fit. ]
Wheee! Do you want to make this canon?
Don't hold me to that, pretty sure I slack off just as much. [He'll read comic books in the infirmary when nothing else needs doing.]
I'm really glad to be working with you, doc. You seem like a decent guy.
yes please!
[ There's a lot that he could have done, especially when he still had a family - but the wistfulness in his expression lasts for only a single second. ]
I am honoured to be working with you as well.
