THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

[Eren gives a start and visibly recoils when what seemed to be a perfectly ordinary, inoffensive cat suddenly turns into a girl. Ugh, he'll never get used to being around these monsters. He scowls.]

I could break the wall if I wanted to break it.

[Although he doesn't want to do what he'd have to do to break it.]

But I don't. And I don't need any help.

[He picks up and throws another rock.]

[Orin laughs and watches him throw it.]

Somethin' bothering you, then? I'm awful good at talkin' to people. You'd probably feel better after a talk than you would hurlin' some rocks like that.

[Or at least that's usually how it goes. Some people genuinely are happier throwing rocks, but they're fun to tease too.]

[He lets out a sigh. And he glares at her suspiciously, but she's just standing there, so it's hard to stay mad at her when she hasn't said anything for him to get mad about. He doesn't like mutants, but he doesn't quite feel right about yelling at some girl he doesn't know when she hasn't done anything to him.]

What's the point in talking about it? I just hate it here. I want to go back.

[Throwing rocks obviously doesn't make him happy, because when he throws another one, he looks even more miserable.]

[Believe it or not, that's a feeling Orin can sympathize with, to a certain extent. While she wasn't particularly attached to the Morlocks as a whole, some of the people there...well, it'd be a lie to say she didn't miss them.]

You too, huh? I don't know about your situation, but I got separated from the people who took me in, y'know? I'm not exactly the fiercest tiger in the jungle, so I came here to protect myself, but I wish they would show up lookin' for me sometimes...

My master, y'know, she was a mind-reader, so I never had to talk about anything as long as she was around. 'Cuz she already knew. But once she was gone, it was like...no one was there for me anymore, so the only thing I could do was talk to people, otherwise I'd go nuts from the quiet, right? And it made me feel better! It was just like sharing with her, only I could decide what people knew and didn't know...I think learning how to talk to people saved me.

[She nods, satisfied with herself.]

Ah, but I don't mean to lecture you. I guess I just wanted to let you know you're not alone when you say you wanna go back somewhere! It's a nice place, but it ain't home, right?

[He listens to her, but the situation she's describing is absolutely nothing like what he's experiencing. In fact, it sounds really weird. It's hard for him to empathize with what she's saying, or feel less alone. It just makes him feel more like he doesn't belong here, since these mutants are all so different. She's just as weird as the rest of them. It's not like he has anything in common with anyone here—just the fact that he has that stupid gene that he doesn't even want.]

It's not a nice place. And I didn't want to come here. They brought me here against my will, and they're making me stay. So we're not alike.

[For one thing, he's apparently a lot more rude!]

[Orin seems to take his rudeness well, for what it's worth! As a member of the Morlocks, she's used to it--it's a group made up of especially undesirable mutants, after all.]

Oho, I see...that does put things in a different perspective, doesn't it! And here I went yapping my mouth off. Sorry 'bout that! Well, at least I feel a little better talkin' about it again, so it's not a total loss.

[She's officially out of advice, except for "have fun with it since you can't leave anyway," which she seriously doubts is the best thing to say right now. It might be best to change the subject and see if he's more agreeable about that.]

So what's your name? Mine's Rin Kaenbyou, but I hate long names like that, so call me Orin.

[That's right, she adds an extra letter and syllable to her name because she hates how long her name is.]

It's fine—

[He can't really be mad at her if she's going to be understanding about it, even if she is weird.]

I don't feel any better. But you don't have to apologize. I'll get out of here someday.

[He's sure about that! He just has to look for his chance.]

Okay. [He doesn't comment on her choice of names. Whatever she wants to be called is fine by him! He doesn't care. It's not like he's looking to make any friends here. Hopefully he won't be here that long.] I'm Eren.

[Orin's a little convinced he'll make it out herself! This guy is seriously determined to get out, and it's impressive.]

Well, good luck to ya. Send me a postcard once you're gone. I mean it, I'll be so pissed if I don't get a postcard. You don't even have to write anything on it, I just wanna be able to tell people "Yeah, I talked to that guy once!"

[She's definitely picking up on his vibe that he doesn't want to be friends, but he's an interesting guy, so she doesn't want to break contact with him just yet. He's got this "succeed or die trying" air about him, and frankly, if he's like this all the time, Orin would be happy with either of these solutions. Success means she gets to wish him well, and dying in the attempt means no one objects if she carts his corpse off to start a new collection of people who impressed her.

Not that she'd mention this out loud.]

I'm not sending you a postcard.

[He's not saying it to be mean, he's saying it because he knows he won't be able to send one, and he doesn't want to make a promise he can't keep.]

So you'll just have to be pissed at me.

[Fortunately, Eren has no idea what she's thinking, so he still has no reason to get mad or push her away. It would be nice to have someone to talk to here, it's just that everyone's so weird and no one likes him. Probably in part because he thinks they're weird.]
