THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

Eren Yeager | Attack on Titan
[He hates it here. He wants to go back home, but he can't. They won't let him go back. Now he's stuck with all these—mutant freaks. He knows he's one of them, technically, but it isn't his fault. He didn't ask to be born this way. He'd change it if he could. There must be some way to fix it.
The Friends of Humanity took care of him, after what happened. It isn't true, what people say about them. They're not hateful. They're looking out for humanity.
He can't bring himself to go talk to anyone, and he doesn't know what to do, he's so full of nervous energy. That's how he came to be here, standing near one of the buildings, a scowl on his face as he angrily throws rocks against the wall.]
B:
[He folds his arms over his chest.]
I don't see what the big deal is. You register guns, so why not mutants? If you don't have anything to hide, it'll be fine.
[Eren: good at popular opinions.]
B
[Feliks frowns, sitting with his front half sticking out of the gate to a very small castle, holding a toy pony in each hand. Like, god, what is it with the new kids this year and internalized mutant-shaming?]
Tell me you're not. You're totally not, right?

And another B for good measure \o/
The problem, I would say - and you have to understand that I speak mostly from personal experience - is the very assumption that a mutant is a weapon, do you see? It rather implies some rather unpleasant things about our autonomy, doesn't it? [He flashes a rather sharp smile.] A gun cannot choose not to be used as a gun - but hopefully, the same does not go for us.

...if I may.
The ownership of firearms is a choice one makes, and contrary to what one might hear, the owners of firearms are as a rule not particularly abused or persecuted for that choice. The condition of being a 'mutant' as the popular term goes is different in both these respects.
Furthermore.
Considering the recent rash of mutants hunted down and murdered by well-funded and well-equipped extremists seeking to harvest their organs, I would say concerns over the idea of a federal program publicly identifying mutants seem quite understandable. Particularly as there seem to be ties between those who supported those murders and those who not so long ago championed precisely this cause.
I do, of course, understand the public safety concerns involved. But how, precisely, does one go about applying such registration? Broad-based genetic testing at birth, perhaps? Even if we ignore the many broader ramifications of establishing that precedent for mutants and non-mutants alike... well, let's put it this way:
It becomes a question of whether a mutant is a citizen who happens to possess an assortment of exceptional abilities... or an assortment of exceptional abilities which happens incidentally also to be a citizen.

Kirino Ranmaru | Inazuma Eleven GO
[It's strange, coming back after so long. Finishing up his schooling, studying abroad in France for a year... and yet somehow, it feels like he's finally come home.
Right now, he's set himself up in the recreation room, idly flipping through a magazine he'd brought with him. He could definitely use a distraction at the moment.]
B - Network
[At first, there's some fiddling with the camera before the user sits back with a warm smile.] Hello, everyone. The name's Kirino. Some of you who were here before the incident might remember me and if you do, it'll be good to see you guys again. Otherwise... it's nice to meet you all in advance!
So. What have I missed?

Myra | OC | Grade 11
Apparently any curfews are broken today by one of the students, who is sitting in the kitchen at 2 AM with an impressive amount of food items in front of her. A carrot is dangling near her face, hovering by itself and glowing slightly in a golden-outlined hue.
She looks exhausted, as anyone would this late at night, but she seems determined to hover around the food as if she's either training or just really indecisive about what to eat. Finally, she takes a bite out of the carrot and shivers. Looking a little pale and as if she's about to throw up, she jumps a bit in fright as someone comes into the kitchen as well.
"I sorry! I was much hungry."

Glitter | OC | Grade 7
An unknown trespasser has somehow managed to get into the mansion! A small, moving line of shiny crystals is making its way through the grass towards the Institutes's doors. For any telepaths, the small group of crystals seem to have a human mind, but it's horribly shattered into tiny, tiny pieces so it's impossible to read. As soon as the unknown entity runs in to someone, threatening or not, the crystals form a thin outline of a small girl's face, almost like a simple drawing.
"Help us, please!"
Action - As a Student
Something very shiny is sitting on the main stairs of the institute. It has the shape of a young girl, about 10-11, but seems to be made of glittery crystals rather than skin and bones. The student is missing an arm, crystals steadily dropping from the stump and then returning into her body as they fall on the knees she's hugging close to her chest. She's sobbing a bit, trying to make herself as little as possible. Someone had a bad day.
2nd one
"Did you get hurt?" he mumbles, unsure of any other way to start this conversation. He's sort of an imposing figure; tall, burly, strong-jawed, deep-voiced, holding a wrench in one hand. But his eyes are soft, maybe that distract from the body that makes him look like the natural-born killer that he is. He always has a soft spot for sad kids, he is one himself.

Raiko Horikawa | (Another goddamned) Touhou
[You know how you can tell a band kid? And more than that, a drummer? By the rhythmic tapping and thumping you can occasionally hear in the breaks of conversation or during what should otherwise be quiet downtime. It's not badly played - in fact her sense of rhythm and even varying the sounds is remarkably good - but you know. It is a distraction.
If the way she's intently staring at her book, or at the teacher, or whatever she should be concentrating on is any indication, she's just doing it as one of those odd habits people have when they concentrate, so she barely realizes she's doing it and that it may either be annoying... or kind of impressive.]
[Network:]
Anyone else out there musically-inclined? -- Let me clarify: Anyone out there interested in jazz bands? I can't believe this school doesn't really have one yet. Unless they do, in which case, point me there.

Naoto Shirogane - Persona 4
If there is one thing Naoto Shirogane hates above all others, it is not understanding what is going on. America is strange, and all of the language and culture she had read before coming here did not prepare her for this experience. Naoto did not want to be in school at all, however, her grandfather said it was necessary to control her abilities.
So, there is an androgynous, slightly anti-social figure in the library, studying with a dictionary pulled up on a laptop.
Network - Video:
[On the video feed is a solemn looking androgynous figure with blue-black hair and a very prominant blue hat. Naoto has a faint accent, somewhere between English and Japanese.]
Good afternoon. I am Shirogane Naoto, or by Western custom, as I must now remember, Naoto Shirogane. I suppose it would be good to introduce myself to you all as we will now be classmates. I am a consulting detective from Japan, and I believe that is all you need know about me for now.
hi there!
Hey, a detective, huh? That's pretty great!
[He doesn't actually think it's great at all, but he smiles.]
Sounds like you'd like to join...
[Wait for it—]
The security club!
[He's going to put in some of the mandatory work on this dumb club he's supposed to be founding, so then he can say he followed the rules. He's not putting in a lot of effort, though.]

Toboe | Wolf's Rain | 9th Grade
Namely walking on two legs around all of these people. He peeks around a partition somewhere on the school grounds and scans the area and people in it as if he's judging the way across a room in a game of the-floor-is-lava in which the floor is actually lava - and then he takes a deep, ribcage-rising breath, holds his head up, gives the strap of his dufflebag a tug, and heads out.
And his posture immediately slouches and his eyes pop re-widened, and his two starting directives - one, learn to navigate, and two, make friends - slip together.
The first few times it happens he gets something along the lines of a passing "'scuse me" in response, which freezes him up, but nonetheless. Any person he meanders into will get a look up from down, a snap to a smile, and a lifted hand and greeting "Hey -- !"]
casually collects all the wolves
It takes a while, since he was smelled from afar and Bigby has to actually travel over there, but before long Toboe is greeted by a voice behind him.]
Need help with anything?
[If Toboe is attuned to the scent, this man basically smells like wolves and smoke. But everything else about him says 'wolf' anyway. And Bigby is currently trying to pick up any information he can from Toboe's scent.]

[Her accent is very pronounced, very obviously French. Her delivery is dramatic. And loud.]
I must ask you... Have you considered—the Drama Club?

Hunter Hirota | Original Character
[Those with an eye for detail might notice that there are absolutely no personal touches in view - he's done nothing to make the room feel like home, nothing to take ownership of it. In a way, it looks even more stark, even more devoid of personal touches than your average hotel room.]
I'm supposed to go see a Doctor McCoy about - [It catches. It still feels a little surreal, saying it.] about my powers. [He doesn't even know what they are. Though that's why he's going to see Doctor McCoy - to figure it out. Whatever it is, it isn't anything like super speed, or super strength, or flight - he'd have noticed that. But whatever it is he can do, their machine (Cerebella, or something like that) picked up on him, and now he's here, on the other side of the country, knowing no one.]
[He should be more excited about being closer to New York, about actually having a hope of glimpsing the Avengers or the Fantastic Four if he visits New York City, but somehow, he just can't muster any excitement.]
Thing is... I'm new. So I don't know where his lab is. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
[Oh. Right. He ought to smile. He tries to, but it feels... unfamiliar. Rusty. It feels like a lifetime ago, when he could smile and it felt natural.] Thanks.

Sam Grigory | Original
[ It's Sam's first time in a school this fancy. And he uses fancy because it's just so completely different from his old high school back home. There's carpet and wooden floors, and all sorts of neat-looking pieces of furniture. It looks more like a hotel than an institute on the first floor, and he figures it must be because they're rich! I wonder if all private schools are like this one...
He's already had a short tour earlier, so now this is his chance to poke around and see things. He reminds himself to be careful about it though, and he's taking obvious care to avoid getting too close to anyone or bumping into them; everyone gets a nice, wide berth from Sam: he wants to make a good first-impression after all and he figures in a place like this, his power isn't...exactly popular.
So of course eventually, he's going to run into one of you and short your powers right out for a second or two if you're using them. ]
Guh...! S--sorry! I wasn't watching where I was...eheheh...
2 - Action
[ It is always awkward when it comes time to do the whole "honing your abilities" thing when you don't actually have an ability that does anything for you. Everyone else is off being super-cool and awesome and Sam is...sitting off to the side, making a very intense face as he looks down at his own hands as he opens and closes them.
He is just so monumentally disappointed with himself. ]
Why couldn't it have least been turning stuff to gold... Or sneezing bubblegum. Even that would have been more useful. [ He might also be muttering to himself here a little bit. This is a Serious Problem alright, he's so sure that technically this doesn't even count as a super-power. It's more like a loserly...power... ]
I wish I had become a wizard.

Utsuho Reiuji | Touhou Project
She has also figured out the cases tend to be slippery to hold on to, as she's just dropped said phone in a gutter.
Hence why she's currently outside with her arm in the ground up to her shoulder grappling for the thing, gigantic black wings alternately spread out on the ground and likely in the way of at least one person and flapping and flailing about as if that'd make her fingers reach any further.
"Come here!"
Her feathers make an odd clattering noise when they move, a bit like heavy plastic shaken together.
UOOOOHHHHHH YOU'RE HERE

[Ryuuna seems to be in a good mood, but that's hardly unusual. What can she say? She's an upbeat kind of gal! She smiles and gives the camera a little wave, idly spinning a pen between her fingers.]
Hey, how many of you guys have got a tattoo? Birthday's coming up in a couple of months, and I'm trying to make plans. I figured I'd ask about... I dunno, experience, advice, suggestions? I haven't decided anything yet, so it seemed smart.
For the rest of you, eh... Well, there any tattoos you what to get? I'm open to suggestions—all I know is I wanna get something really cool!
II. Action
[Having to take extra lessons is super boring. She could probably do just fine academically if she applied herself, but regular classes are pretty lame too, so as far as Ryuuna is concerned, that's a Catch 22. What does it matter to a teacher if she's failing, anyway? They should just mind their own business!
But hey, whoever was supposed to be supervising this afterschool session has left the room for some reason, which means an opportunity has arisen! Ryuuna slumps forward on her desk, stretching her arms out as she addresses the person seated in front of her.]
I'm super bored... Hey, wanna ditch?
[It doesn't matter if it's a fellow delinquent or an honor student who's just making up a class they missed, she's trying it.]
III. Action
[It doesn't matter why you happen to be walking down this hallway. What does matter is that the moment you pass the art room, its door swings open very loudly, and Ryuuna leans out.]
Heeey! Come here a second!
[Yes, you. She even waves an arm over her head to make sure she has your attention.]
III
Me...? Yes!
[There's no one else here! Certainly she's going to come over, she's being summoned! In moments, she's looming before the door to the art room and the smaller girl standing there.]

Marie | Persona 4
[This ... is still a bit much for this new girl. Marie's standing in the middle of the corridor, clueless, spinning her timetable around and around in an vain attempt to make it make sense.
First day in school, and it's this school. Well.]
This is stupid. Why put that next to that?
[Seriously. Running across the entire campus for classes? Huh?]
B: Action:
[Up in the library, now, and she's in the corner with a notebook. Writing away, by the looks of things. And rather frustrated with it, too... every so often, not looking where, she hurls a ball of paper over her shoulder as whatever she's writing goes wrong again. Ngh.]
I'll have you know I'm phone tagging just for you. XD
[Izanami's hand snapped up to catch it before it fell, uncrumpling it to read its contents. Somehow, but some magicks that transcended the marvels of mutation, her normally passive expression fell into one of complete exasperation.]
What fooloshness is this?

Yuuko Kanoe | Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
[The thought of going to a new school wasn't something everyone enjoyed. However, Yuuko was thrilled. She could meet new people and have so much fun! She'd started to think she was a real ghost before she'd found out the truth. She was a mutant, and there were a lot of people who were like her. Sort of.
Of course the first thing she's going to do is wander about the school grounds to figure out where everything is. Which may actually start some ghost rumors. Sometimes she'll be invisible, making it seem like her phone is floating in midair...or maybe she's just messing with people, brushing up against them or shifting their things around when they're not looking. Other times, she'll be visible, but...semi-transparent. She might even walk through you.
Or if she sees someone who looks interesting, she might just run up to them and seemingly appear out of thin air.]

Eiki Shiki | Touhou Project
[Eiki could always be easily found either in her classroom or in her office. She held an open door policy to all and encouraged students to come to her with any questions or concerns. Though she was the civics and law teacher she still hoped her students would rely on her. Especially in these tumultuous times, it was more important than ever to understands one's rights as a citizen and how the law worked. More so for mutants, especially young ones.]
[B Video]
Good day students, I wanted to remind you all that your essays are due tomorrow. The topic was "what do you think is good or bad about our current system in the USA and other countries" and should be about three pages long MLA format.
I hope you've all ready finished them or are close to it. I'll know if you start it right now. There will be no extensions, though I'm not against giving exceptions if the situation warrants it.
I look forward to reading every last one of them!

So with a terrible grade on her last test, the girl slinks into her teacher's office, head on the ground, looking ashamed of herself, knowing she's going to be judged for her bad grade. ]

Rin Tousaka | Fate/Extra
[Rin likes to stay on top of current events. Typically, she relies on the internet to do so—but it doesn't hurt to see what they're saying on TV, too, so after dinner, she can be found watching the evening news. When the topic turns to the Mutant Liberation Front, though, she doesn't seem very impressed.]
Jeez. If the authorities are only "mildly concerned," they're not doing a very good job.
[Obviously, they need to step up their game!]

Yeah, that's right... They're not.

They need to crush those freaks now, before it's too late.

There is a girl in the study room, attempting to work on her homework-- for a certain definition of 'attempting.' Most of the homework seems to be crumpled up in little balls in and around the trashcan. She's amusing herself by trying to toss them into the wastepaper basket with increasingly difficult challenges. First a straight shot, then with her eyes closed, now behind her back-- she's not a bad shot.
But she's probably not creating the most work-friendly study environment.
Action - Gym
After class, Chie is venting her frustration by beating up on a huge punching bag in the weight room. The thing has clearly seen better days anyway-- being whaled on every day by superpowered teenagers tends to have that effect-- but Chie is giving it a pretty good beatdown. She executes a high back-spin kick with a loud kiai, clearly oblivious to anyone else who may be in the room with her.
Gym
Grell didn't usually come to the gym, but she'd heard some of the cute older men of the Institute came sometimes. After finishing up her work at the school office, she'd found her way to this place and was now leaning against the door frame, watching a petite girl try to beat the literal fluff out of a harmless punching bag. There were others here, but none of the other teachers or faculty that Grell had hoped to find. As a recent addition to the staff herself, she thought it couldn't hurt to at least try to get to know the students she had to file papers for all day.
"Did it insult your hair?"

Grell Sutcliffe | Kuroshitsuji
[Working here was turning out to be an "experience." While the job itself wasn't a far cry from everything she'd done in the past - file this paper, type up that invoice, answer the telephone, file her nails because it was all dreadfully dull - the people were new in all the right ways. Definitely underaged and therefore off limits, but new.
She'd never been around, what some would call, her own kind in such abundance before. Every hallway was filled with them chatting away, every classroom bustling with them testing their powers. And for once, school wasn't terrible.
Except that now she was the office lady wandering about trying to get students to fill in their damn paperwork. With a stack of blank forms for something or another (she hadn't really cared to look at the title), Grell stalked over to the nearest students, shoving a form into their hands.]
You. Sign this so I can get back to watching the hottie across the hall from my office.

[Sitting outside on the lawn was a great way to people watch, and an even better way to play "What Not to Wear: Grell Sutcliffe edition."]
Two points subtracted for that color coordination.
[But on the upside?]
Plus one for the hair though.

Sabo | One Piece
Having gone through the process of getting his schedule and room number, followed by a light unpacking he figures that the most normal thing to do is to go and explore. Also, he's feeling a bit peckish so finding the cafeteria just jumped to the top of his list. He puts on his ever present hat along with one of his larger eyepatches, which covers almost all of the scar on the left side of his face, and he's ready to go.
Having made the decision to not study any maps of the school before coming here finding his way proves to be harder than he thought and after his trip his patience is running pretty thin. So clearly the best solution is to open the nearest door he can find on the off chance that it might be the right one. Unsurprisingly it isn't.
"This is not the cafeteria, is it?"
The stealth and grace of the Blue Gentleman...
He attempts to push his damp fringe out of his eyes with a grin, expansively gesturing around him at all the standard gym paraphernalia surrounding him, while clearly dressed in a loose-fitting exercise outfit. "Tell me, whatever gave you that impression?"
Oh please, he is the epitome of discretion
No.
At least let him dream?
