THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!


Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag, as well as the weekly updates to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

Aqua walked into the library, looking for an English translation of one of the texts she hoped to assign her students. She headed for the philosophy section, trying to recognize a tome she was familiar with a handwritten version of, among all the professionally published volumes.

You look like you need some help, Aqua! Patchouli welcomes anyone that's intending to use the library for it's intended use. And of course she is for the most part aware of any visitors to the library.

...She probably shouldn't go and do things like seemingly appear out of nowhere. "Do you need some assistance?"

"Yes, please." she smiled warmly, not overly startled. "I was looking for a tome I read before I came here, in English," she said, meaning that she now needed the English version, not that she had read it in English. She had not. "It was a philoreligious" was that the word she wanted? "text from India, about the Gods and how they related to ritual."

Of course, there was a good chance any given handwritten book less than a decade old had been written by Patchy herself.

There was a small, barely noticeable smile from Patchouli. "I believe I have a few books of that nature."

She had made it her business to know where each and every book was, so it did not take long for her to find the most likely book and offer it to Aqua. "Hmm... Is this the one you require?"

She opened it and looked through it, then shook her head. "No, though I would borrow this as well, if I may. The text was..." she tried to think, "old. It was a translation itself, the one I read, of a tome already a thousand years old, so my Master said. One of the oldest accounts we have from that part of the world."

"Of course, you may." A little more detail was all the librarian needed, she was certain she knew exactly which book Aqua needed for her students. It was rather old itself, however, and she will worry if someone borrowed it. It was by no means unavailable, Patchouli was selective with who she'll loan it to. She has a good feeling with Aqua, though.

She had to reach up on her toes to get the needed book, but she managed it. "Yes, I'm sure this is the one. I will have to ask you to be careful with it."

She nodded. "I will. I am going to hand transcribe some passages I think will aid the students. I tried to order it, but was unsure the English name. If it is purcaseable, I shall do so, so that they may all read at their leisure. But first I shall transcribe. It is a good discipline."

"I'm afraid copies of this book are hard to come by. I do plan on eventually transcribing it myself, however."

She nodded. "Thank you for letting me know. On my island we had many copies in our language, the Master favored this tome as a discipline lesson, we learned by copying, and we learned not to misbehave by having to copy for others," she said with a sad fond smile. "Older students were tasked with reading the copies from end to end to be sure that no student shirked in hidden places. If they did, they had to begin again. Rare was the student who shirked twice this task." She missed home like an ache. "Perhaps I should suggest something similar to the Master here."

"Curious... I would be most interested in what he would think about this idea."

Patchy will now begin to lead Aqua to the desk now. While she can understand being homesick, she didn't ask about it, she was focused on her work.

She went with her, nodding. "I shall try to remember to inform you, then, when I speak with him. He seems quite busy, however, and it is hard to get to speak to him as often as I expected."

"Achieving peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants is proving much more difficult than expected," Patchouli replied with a nod, soon reaching the main desk.. "I'll welcome any news about this."

"I must admit, that is the thing I find hardest to understand here. We are all one people, how could there be such hatred simply because some have different abilities. We all have different abilities." she shook her head. It would never be sensible to her, this hatred and fear.
