THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!


Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag, as well as the weekly updates to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

"Like that ever works." So, since it looks like this conversation is going to go a bit longer than she intended, so she's going to swivel around the chair and sit down across from him.

"Alright, so, we both draw cards and then we see who can last the longest, is that it?"

[velvetson]

"In simple terms, yes. You... want to learn?" Okay, where did he put that extra deck... probably doesn't want to give her one of his combo-heavy ridiculous decks, but there's one here that'll do, he thinks, passing it over and tidying up his work in progress.

"...what, we get to play with two decks of cards? Can't we just play with one?" Seriously? This was already looking waaay too complicated. She was already starting to feel like a goober.

[velvetson]

"That would contradict the concept of the game. Each player collects their own cards and uses those which suit their style of play." He smiles slightly as he talks, arranging his own - ah, that'll do him, too. "Every deck is unique, as is every player."

[now_i_know]

"...but then how is that fair?"

[velvetson]

"How is any competition fair?" he asks, a little puzzled. "Though if one were in a position to only have poor cards available, I suppose that might be problematic..."

[now_i_know]

"Well, if we're doing the same deck, we're drawing from the same cards. That's fair, because it's all on chance."

[velvetson]

"That much is true, yes. But the cards as a whole are created to be a fair balance to one another. Everything has a place and everything has a counter - it is a player's choice what they use. It adds a little more ...variety to the game."

[now_i_know]

"I dunno..." She hesitated, looking at the picture of the card in her hand. "It sounds pretty fishy, ta me."

[velvetson]

Theo shrugs a little at that - "It's up to you. But that is the way it is. Do you still wish to learn?"

The girl smiled. "'know what? I think I'll see you play a game with somebody else, first."

"What's you're name, d-" She was about to say "dork" again, but caught herself at the last minute. Boy, this socializing thing was tough!

[velvetson]

Ah, well. Her loss, he thinks. He nods, in any case: "My name is Theodore - and your own?"

She learns best by watching, not by listening. Which isn't to say she didn't appreciate the effort. "Catherine."

"It's nice t'meetcha Theodore! Are yah new too?"

[velvetson]

"Catherine? A pleasure to meet you too." He smiles warmly. "I'm not exactly new, but I've ... not had much contact with other students, I'll admit."

"Well, yeah, that's because you're a dork!"

[velvetson]

"Ah-!" Theo throws his hands up at that. "Must you?"

[now_i_know]

At that, Catherine has no choice but to laugh. "No, but it's fun!"

[velvetson]

"Oh..." Cue a sad face on his part. And he thought he was free of that routine here.

[now_i_know]

"You don't have to act so glum about it. That's what friends do. Y'know?" She nodded. "You can call me names too, if yah like."
