THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Figure of speech, T'Soni.

-She turned her attention to everyone else.- Everyone pair up for grappling drills. T'Soni, you're with me.

Oh. Yes, of course.

[How embarrassing. Maybe she should just focus on being relieved. She knows she stands out as-is, so being assured there isn't an additional reason for her to have a target painted on her back...

Once again, her thoughts are cut short as Chun-li addresses her.]

Me? Wouldn't a student with more experience in [...] grappling make a better partner for you?

[kikosho]

Those with more experience have less to learn, T'Soni. -Chuni shrugged, gesturing over to the mats.- I have the most to teach to those who haven't already formed notions on grappling style and form.

[asarcheologist]

[Well... She can't say she thinks of herself as much of a close quarters fighter, but she isn't about to argue. She can see the necessity, so she'll just have to hope she catches on sooner rather than later. When Chun-li gestures, she goes.]

All right. I mean, yes ma'am.

[That's something else she's still catching onto.]

T'Soni, are you familiar with the horse stance?

[asarcheologist]

Not at all. I'm afraid martial arts did not make up a large part of the curriculum I studied.

[Putting it mildly.]

[kikosho]

Then watch carefully. -She slowly shifted her feet unto the position, carefully bending her knees so that T'Soni could easily see what she was doing. With the leggings Chun-li wore, the musculature of her legs was very obvious. "The World's Strongest Woman" was apparently not just some title the Chinese government drummed up for her.-

Do as I do.

[As directed, Liara studies her movements as she drops into that stance, promptly...staring at her legs. It's hard not to; they're very impressive legs, after all. And she did say to watch carefully, so...

...But, right, she's supposed to be copying her movements. After what's probably just a second too long, Liara adjusts the position of her feet, gingerly copying Chun-li's stance.]

-Chun-li examined Liara briefly before stepping over and giving a hard push to the girl's shoulder, sweeping the leg at the same time, just to see how well the imitation would hold up.-

[And down she goes. The best thing that can be said for her showing is that she manages to remain upright for at least a couple of seconds, rather than hitting the floor straightaway.

A great deal of windmilling accompanies the display, of course.]

-Chun-li extended her hand to help the girl up, but her expression was just as neutral before.-

Again. Put more strength into your legs. If you don't have a solid base, you have nothing.

[For her part, Liara looks like she's having trouble deciding whether or not to feel chagrined. Still, she follows the order without argument, setting her legs more firmly even if her movements still seem a bit unsure of themselves.]

All right. [Then, a second later, she suddenly asks:] Where should I hold my center of gravity?

[Maybe this will be easier if she has a more theoretical understanding first.]

I'm so sorry

Hmm... That's best shown through demonstration, I think. -Chun-li shifted into the stance again, this time quickly and with no visible effort.-

Feel around my thighs and abdomen for where the tension is.

apparently not sorry enough!!

[Oh.

For a second, she finds herself staring at Chun-li's legs again; something about the prospect of giving them a tactile examination is...daunting, in a way she can't explain. But she's been given her instructions, and in any case, she's the one who asked in the first place. She can't balk now. Liara straightens and takes a step closer, trying to steel herself as she goes.

Right, this isn't anything to be embarrassed about. It's no different than the way a medical doctor might examine their patient. Her hands are still a little shy when she reaches out to do as told, but more out of respect than nervousness, or at least more out of concern for Chun-li's comfort than concern about touching a woman's thighs.]

Um. Right. Tell me if anything I do is uncomfortable for you.

[She isn't so flustered she can't keep her examination clinical, at least.]

T'Soni, I'm a police officer. There's not a lot you can do to me that hasn't happened before, and in worse situations. -Chun-li sighed.-

[At that remark, Liara automatically looks up. She had been trying not to look at Chun-li, studying her muscles the way she might a diagram, but that... That makes her feel a little bad, somehow.]

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply anything. I can't imagine.

[kikosho]

Then don't imagine. Just feel, T'Soni. -Focus, girl. Chun-li's patience was only so pliable.-

[Oops.]

[SCRAMBLES TO GRAB A HANDFUL OF THIGH. Probably a little too enthusiastically, honestly.

But, all right. After that examination, she thinks she has a better grasp on the theory behind the stance, at least a little. She straightens and steps back again, and when she settles into the stance again, she does so carefully, shifting her weight back and forth a few times with thoughtful consideration.]

-Chun-li nods, and once more moves to try and throw the girl down. This time, it takes significantly more strength to do so, inspiring a smile from Liara's new crushinstructor.-

Very good! -She offered a hand to help her back up.- From here, we can start learning how finding your center like that will give you an advantage in almost any grappling situation.
