THE TEST DRIVE MEME
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

(=^ω^=) OMG I'M SO HAPPY TO BE HERE EFURRYONE! I CAN'T BELIEVE MY SISTER LET ME COME. I HAVE TO TEXT HER EFURRYDAY BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. I'VE BEEN AROUND SO MANY MUTANTS BUT YOU GUYS SEEM SO WELCOMING AND AMAZING.
\(=゜-゜=)ノNOW TO MOST IMPURRTANT QUESTION.
(= TωT =)ANY BUDDING ROMANCES? WE'VE BEEN HERE A WEEK SURELY THERE IS SOMETHING TO REPORT.
B.
No, she refused to be lonely. There were so many people, there were things to do, there were new classes, there were amazing places to go! She simply refused to be lonely.
A paw appeared on her shirt and a pair of green eyes peered from beneath her desk.
Oh no.
It was a kitten, small and unassuming, black from nose to tail, save for one spot of white on a single paw and just slightly transparent. Oh no oh no oh no. Another popped up, calico and a bit bigger. There was the panic. Were they making noise? She couldn't tell. They did that sometimes, her little sister said so. She glanced around stealthily--or as stealthily as a girl with two slightly see through cats draped over her arms could be, and pushed her chair back. Maybe she could go text her sister and make all the loneliness go away.
Her must have made a squeal or something because the person beside her was staring at her. Both hands full of kitten. What a pawsitively bizarre first impression.
"Sorry. Can't help it." She said, in what she hoped was a whisper.

Speaking of, as he was no longer paying attention, it had started to activate. He was beginning to grow whiskers and his ears were elongating and becoming furry, in imitation. A rather comical look for the normally stoic, phlegmatic junior.
Instead of acknowledging her apology, he rummaged in his pack, as quietly as he could. A year on the run had taught him the habit of hoarding food. Crumbs were always at the bottom of whatever he carried. But at least that meant quick access to a spare bologna sandwich from lunch, of which he pulled out a small piece of the meat and silently held it out to the little darlings.

Oh that was the best power, the best power. Her eyes widened as she took in his transformation. Ears! Whiskers! Whiskers of all things!
Thoroughly distracted from her perdicament, panic the cat disappeared, fading out of existence much the way it came in. Loneliness still stuck around, sniffing at the offered food, meowing--she thinks-- but unable to actually eat it.
Her hands fly to sign--but then she remembers she's not at home anymore, people don't just know how to do it.
So she scribbles on a piece of paper.
'It can't eat. It's not real, just mind things. Some are more real than others, try to pet it!!!'
For all they act and look real, she has had mixed result with the touching part of things.

He hesitantly reached out and tried to scritch the psychic projection cat, or whatever it was, behind its ears. That her projections would take the form of cats actually made sense to him, given what he'd seen of Meulin from being her neighbor in class.

'ヽ(=^・ω・^=)ノCute right??? They aren't really cute when they show up, because it means im not feeling my best (= TェT =) but they're a nice comfort when im alone.
Not so much in class tho.'
She gives a sneaky glance towards the front of the class. So far so good.

He scribbles his own note down and passes it to her.
"Yes."
Then his number, to text to.

He's seen some displays of positively bizarre abilities before, though, so at least he doesn't seem too surprised apart from a bit of silence at first. But it is history lesson, and he is the teacher, so while the class is going to end soon, the distraction isn't very conducive.
"Are they real?" The first question is mostly out of curiosity. Then-- "Bring them outside."
Shoo, girl.
B
"No--no they aren't real, they're just. Mind cats!" She points this out by trying to pet one. It remains oddly solid for a moment before slipping into semi transparency. And odd sight, to see her hand slip right through a waving tail.
"See? They won't bother anyone I purromise."

...Okay, let's try to remember this girl first. Her name is... something-- Meulin Leijon. Right? Right. She's the deaf girl. But she can also lip read, and he does write out most of the lesson, so there's that. Shi didn't quite catch what makes her a mutant, but... is that it? Mind cats? Maybe it's the manifestation of other psychic-relatived abilities.
Making holographic illusions with your mind sounds rather impressive, to be honest. "The other students seem to be distracted by them, however." It's said in a stern tone that Meulin probably can't hear, but it does prompt the classmates to turn back to the lesson being conducted.
"Can you dissipate them?"

She tries the series of mental gymnastics needed to make them go away. No need to panic, she's just being silly. No need for panic at all, not really. Her teacher is there to teach her, not care about her weird cats. There's no reason to panic if she can make panic go away. Panic loses its twin then borders on shimmering itself. She's fine really, surrounded by potential friends! No need for panic or loneliness. Panic disappears but loneliness yawns and curls up on her desk.
Well. It's better than nothing and she just needs a few good text messages for loneliness really.
"Is that better?" She's a touch too loud, but she's hopeful.

She leaned in, her grin wide and her voice a loud whisper. "Dang, girl, I've heard the expression having kittens but you take it to a rad new level! I'd say high-five me but your arms are loaded."
no subject
"We can high five anyways!" She shifts the projected cat to her shoulder, despite protests and tiny suddenly solid claws stuck in her sweater and raises the hand for high five commencement.
Kittens are especially the best type of thing to high five over.

"You can't help what?" he asks, uncertain. "You can't help kittens?" Well, okay, there are worse things to not be able to help... Dammit. Why did that one have to be calico?
no subject
"Can you repeat that?" She stage whispered, watching his face this time. And pretending that those sparks weren't the most intriguing and somewhat dangerous power she had seen yet.

BOARDING SCHOOLS ARE SIMPLY MADE FOR ROMANCE.
hey! o/ glad to see a homestuck here!
His gaze was inadvertently drawn to the girl with cats in her hands. A brief moment of recollection reminded him who she was - Meulin Leijon, with the rather unique ability of projecting cats from her negative emotions. And... he could not just stand idly by while one of his students was unhappy.
A moment later she would find him next to her desk with a slip of white paper. His handwriting is elegant and fluid, almost in cursive - but not quite.
no subject
"Geez..." If only she had more control over them--well--she wouldn't even be known as a mutant, "Wha?"
She reads the paper and shakes her head quickly, trying to hide the silly cats from sight. This is especially ineffective given he's right there beside her desk.
"Sorry, got lonely." Her whisper is actually rather soft for once, maybe too soft.
