[Shulk takes a moment, mostly to stop stuffing his face. A little lax on the manners side but he never really had much time for that.]

Afternoon, Ivan. [He sported an English accent himself.] I'm Shulk, a new teacher here. I guess that makes us a bit similar.

[Young looking for a teacher. Mostly because he was young. Eighteen years old at that.]

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-01 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ivan doesn't appear to notice Shulk's manners or lack thereof, beaming and nodding at this response.]

Yes, it is good not to be the only new one. It's less lonely!

[He does seem much more happy than lonely, currently.]

A teacher? Ah, I thought you were a student! What do you teach? Should I call you... Mister Shulk?

[He's not too clear on the correct forms of address here.]

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-01 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
We're not in class so it's okay to just call me Shulk if you want.

[Palling up with students. Certainly a bad good teaching method.]

I teach the shop class though! It's not intensive but I think it's a pretty important part of what everyone should learn.

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Shulk. You may call me Ivan.

[He nods again.]

What is shop class? I'm sorry, I do not know it. Not shopping?

[He's not familiar with the term, but he's pretty sure it's not a class on shopping. This is his first time out of Russia, and his first time in a normal school since he was very young.]

If it is such an important class, I will certainly take it!

It's a class where you learn how to use things like welders and power tools. Of course, the project by the end of the school year is to build something of your choice.

I doubt anyone will be sitting at a desk for it. It's rather hands on, yeah?
truba: (три)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Welders and power tools?

[Ivan pauses to think about this for a few moments, before smiling again.]

I would very much like to learn this! I would rather make something than sit at a desk. Hm, I wonder what I will make... Something big. Could I make a boat?
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076442)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-02 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
A well-made boat would take too long to build. Not to mention that to even use it, you'll need to apply for the proper licenses. Besides, that's more of an advanced thing to work with.
truba: (семь)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
You need licenses for a boat in America? But on Lake Baikal, anyone can go out and row, as long as you have the boat. Do the police row after them?

[Ivan mimes the act of paddling with a canoe. He really didn't get around much, even in Russia.]

No, I would rather make something big. If it is harder, even better!

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-02 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
It differs depending on the state but most states require that you register your watercraft and get a state sticker to put on it. I applaud your motivation but I don't think it's a good idea.
truba: (шесть)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I will obtain the license very easily! I will look up boat licenses in this state. In Russia, I can go boating without problems.

It will not be large, but charming.

[He already has his heart set on it.]

It will be very pleasant to go out on the lake in my botik.

We'll just have to see when the time comes around for final projects.

[No sense in arguing it. Let a kid have his dreams. Even if said kid was nearly the same age.]

Is there anything else you'd be interested in?
truba: (четырнадцать)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Very good. When the time comes, I will show you an excellent boat.

[Yes, it's decided. Whether he actually makes an excellent boat or not, he's not going to do his damndest. He's very determined. He continues to nod, then pauses again.]

I also like... plumbing! It is interesting, isn't it, to think of all the pipes beneath us, linking us all together.
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076444)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-02 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good interest to have! A lot of people don't realize how much the civilized world relies on plumbing. Knowing how to create and fix a pipe system is really an underutilized skill set.
truba: (Default)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think so, too! Pipes are useful, good for many things. I used to try to fix them back home, but it did not always go well.

You cannot appreciate life with pipes until you have lived without them! Are you very good with plumbing?
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076446)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-02 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
I won't pretend to be a master with it but I could fix any problems people had. If there was something I don't know about, I wouldn't give up on finding out, ever.
truba: (шесть)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-02 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? If you can fix any problems, that is impressive. You must be a great plumber. If not a master, then very close!

Can you teach me? I would like to learn!
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076448)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-02 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
You'll have to come to class when they start. That's the best answer I can give you.
truba: (шесть)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-03 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I will! That is already decided. I will be your most eager student!

Where are you from, Shulk?
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076449)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-03 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be counting on it!

Oh, me? I was born in York but I went to school in Cambridge.
truba: (один)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-03 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
You can count on me! Ivan the plumber. And also the carpenter. Carpenter Ivan, I like that.

Cambridge, is that England? There must be people here from every country. It is nice to see. I will try to meet as many different people as I can.
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076448)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-03 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[A smile, really. Shulk feels pretty good that he somehow motivated someone. Or hopefully he helped. He couldn't really tell either way.]

England, yes. I went to the University there. You're right, though. There's a lot of people here that are from all over the world.
truba: (два)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-04 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
I want to visit England someday. I'd like to see London. Where else do you think I should go?

That is why I came here, to meet people from all over and make friends with everyone.
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076450)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-04 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'd honestly suggest any of the castles, really! The handiwork done on them, despite the primitive time period, is fantastic.
truba: (семь)

[personal profile] truba 2015-06-04 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
I will see them, then! I like old buildings.

Have you ever been to St. Petersburg? The Winter Palace is very beautiful! It was built by Peter the Great. Though it has been rebuilt since then. There are many marvelous palaces in the city.
reallyfeelingit: (pic#9076439)

[personal profile] reallyfeelingit 2015-06-04 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't been there but I'd really like to visit! The onion domes are a sight to see, I'm certain. Not only do they have an original design but I'm sure the work put into it was well ahead of its time.
