Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Hello!

[It doesn't matter who you are, teacher or student—while you're at lunch, suddenly, a large young man with a thick Eastern European accent (Russian, for those who have an ear for such things) suddenly plops his tray down on the table next to yours. He smiles broadly.]

It is nice to meet you! I am Ivan Olegovich Braginsky. I am a new student here.

[As if it isn't obvious.]

[Shulk takes a moment, mostly to stop stuffing his face. A little lax on the manners side but he never really had much time for that.]

Afternoon, Ivan. [He sported an English accent himself.] I'm Shulk, a new teacher here. I guess that makes us a bit similar.

[Young looking for a teacher. Mostly because he was young. Eighteen years old at that.]

[Ivan doesn't appear to notice Shulk's manners or lack thereof, beaming and nodding at this response.]

Yes, it is good not to be the only new one. It's less lonely!

[He does seem much more happy than lonely, currently.]

A teacher? Ah, I thought you were a student! What do you teach? Should I call you... Mister Shulk?

[He's not too clear on the correct forms of address here.]

[Feliks looks up with a start, setting his iPhone face-down on the table. God, where did this guy come from all of a sudden?]

Uh. Hi?

[Well, at least this guy probably won't make the face most Americans do about his name.]

...Feliks. Feliks Łukasiewicz-Flourite. [He's probably going to have to think of a way to shorten that last name for the students, actually. Just go with Flourite? No, then there'd be three Mr. Flourites kicking around school, plus it'd feel weird to give up his own name... Maybe just go with his code name around the kids?]

[...He realizes he's just been sitting there thinking about it for a little too long, and sort of abruptly puts his hand out to shake.]

[Whatever the difficulty, Ivan seems impressed by the length.]

[The end does give him trouble. He does know languages other than Russian, in addition to the English he's currently speaking, but he has very little experience in speaking with actual non-Russians.]

What year are you in school? I am from St. Petersburg! This is my first time out of Russia. It is very exciting.

[It's not too infrequent for students to be called in to see the school's legal advisor. For this school, there are endless legal issues to consider. Students get in trouble, or their families do, or there are custody issues... And that's not including the teachers, who sometimes present the most serious problems.

The headaches never end, really, but Yuri seldom loses his composure. He offers a slight smile as his next "client" steps into his office.]

Ah, thank you. I imagine you have some idea why I've called you here.

[ooc: Characters can also have appointments with Yuri regarding school matters, as he teaches criminal justice and pre-law courses, in addition to serving as a legal advisor.]

[Alicia steps into the office with a bit of a grin on her face and a plate of biscuits that she had baked]

[Larsa was a little unsure of this new place. He had never factored in being sent away to a school like this, not including the mutant aspect of it. The bulk of his education until now had been via highly thought-of tutors who taught him with the sole view of being a leading figure in the Empire.

Now, all that could be in jeopardy, even the seat of House Solidor could be in jeopardy if it became public that he was a mutant. All in all, despite his new and unlooked-for current situation, he was concerned for his friends back in Rabanastre and hoped that Vaan could keep his light fingers away from any more Archadians lest he and Penelo end up in trouble.

Trying to focus instead on his own situation, he finished unpacking and headed out in to the corridor to try to familiarise himself with his new surroundings.]

[Alex yawns as he makes his way back to his dorm. He still feels like he's been run over by a truck, but at least he's actually awake and able to move again. He's half tempted to go right back to bed when he gets to his room, but after being asleep for so long he knows he needs to stay awake.

The question is, doing what? Homework? He's probably a few days behind in his classes, but he's not sure he's up for the mental exercise just yet. Maybe he'll hit the gym, get the blood pumping properly again.

Then he spots a new face. Huh, fresh meat. Interesting, considering Alex had heard about at least one student getting yanked out by his parents due to recent events.]

You picked a hell of a time to transfer.

[Catherine had just wrapped up from working out and was walking back to her room to get a change of clothes. For now, she only has a sleeveless jogging shirt and low-cut jogging shorts. Revealing, perhaps, but with her mechanical arms and legs, they ensure she'd be covered while not snagging into any open parts. She was a bit self-conscious about it. So much so that when she was turning the corner she barely had enough time to move out of the way.]

Whoa!! Hey watch it!

[Though she said that, she was more worried for his sake. She had a lot of weight on her and metal hands are not the most delicate thing to reach out and grab somebody.]

[With a sigh and a smile, she knelt down and reached for her knees.]

[ The entertainment industry of Japan is quite far removed from that of America, but sometimes news do travel between circles. A certain idol briefly made waves when he was ousted as a mutant and was forced to retire - and ardent followers of the J-pop scene might know of rumours that he had traveled out of the country.

If anyone ventures out onto the school grounds on a certain sunny day, they would find a youth singing on a secluded corner of the lawn. It's evident that he is a very good singer, with perfect pitch, rhythm, and an overall velvety tone. He doesn't seem to be carrying anything other than the headphones over his ears - no speakers, and yet there is instrumental accompaniment to his music.

You might have recognized his appearance, or just want to talk - as the last note fades into the clear air, he removes his earphones and hangs them around his neck. It might be appropriate to approach him now. ]

[There is probably no one less likely to recognize this young man than Ivan, not because of Ivan's own nation of birth, but because of his curious upbringing. He knows very little about pop culture, let alone Japanese pop culture.

However, he does enjoy music, and he stops to listen to the stranger singing so beautifully. Then he stays, standing still, rapt. As soon as the music ends, he bursts into sincere, emphatic applause.]

[A stray soccer ball gently rolls towards Tokiya, stopping just by his feet. Soon after, Tenma runs towards him.]

[He stops himself when he realizes the other boy is singing. Not wanting to interrupt him, he patiently waits for him to finish or pause on his own accord.]

For those who don't know me, I'm Carlyn Caimbeulach, I work at the library, please spell my name correctly, and I've just gotten back from a very large number of very complex jobs. Please do not ask. [Anger issues were always fun to deal with. At least, back when you were actually able to act upon them. Now that she's been brought to the Institute, Shandra's been finding it very hard to curve her violent tendencies. Three fights in the last month alone wasn't exactly a shining beckon of goodness on her record. However, most attempts to try and help her ended in failure...except for hobbies. Physical ones like baseball, track, boxing, and even...sculpting.

There was just something about hitting a big piece of stone with a hammer and chisel that made her feel relaxed. Except for right now, judging by the broken chisels lying around at her feet.]

Worthless pieces of junk! How am I supposed to work when they keep breaking in my hand? It's not even like I hit them that hard!

[The door to the room is open, allowing everyone in a...surprisingly large distance to hear her fit. Everyone else in the room high-tailed it out of there the second she arrived, but will you investigate just what's going on? Surely Shandra can't possibly be as bad as the rumors would suggest.]

[And here comes Kaede, blunt as a truck. She was making her way to one of the art studios elsewhere in the building, from the small case of brushes in her hand.

The horned mutant had paused in the doorway, making no attempt to disguise the fact that she was staring at Shandra square in the face.]

[You may have noticed the girl walking into the classroom before, having been delivering the bread to the school Cafeteria for a good while. I mean it's hard not to notice the bakery truck with the flying pig for a logo.

You also might have noticed her during the attack, exploding in blue flame after having been caught during the attack with a stray blast, causing her mutant power to activate for the first time.

She's sheepishly standing in front of the classroom to introduce herself.]

Um, hi. I'm Alicia. I'm a baker at Alicia's Bakery. It's good to meet you all.

[Alric smiled reassuringly, nodding in greeting; she was obviously feeling a little out of her element, after all, and he was always glad to help out where he could.]

Ah... a pleasure to meet you, surely, Miss Alicia. My name is Alric. I hope you find the Institute both useful and welcoming.

[the camera turns on and is clearly in the schools kitchen. Alicia with her hair in a single ponytail tied back with her usual red bandana as she kneads dough and starts forming it into what the ingredients to the side tell you are about to become delicious, fluffy cinnamon rolls.

She looks at the camera with a kind smile on her face.]

I've been noticing since I got here, there is no food program. I was wondering if anyone was interested in forming some sort of baking club for after class. To make treats and things for everyone?

[she looks back down and starts rolling out the dough across the counter]

[She still didn't know why she needed to be here. She'd been getting by at skill, and any discipline and training she needed she was getting already. Perks of having a loving father in an army family. And yet, abruptly, she had been arranged and set up here. To, in his words, "keep her safe".

Yeah, the massive attack the school had just suffered really gives it a safe vibe.

She kept to herself mostly. Classes, touring the campus, acclimating. She did that all by her lonesome. But there was one thing she couldn't shake. One thing that she missed being able to do.

And she saw no reason not to do it here.

Which was why, at the break of dawn, Jacqui was up and out on a three mile run around the school grounds to get the day started. She might not be home anymore, and dad might not be there to take the lead, but she knew the drills well enough. And it was a chance to get some things off her chest.

Which would explain the intense look on her face and the angry chant under her breath that was probably a little "too" vivid.]

[It was almost a surprise seeing someone else out running this early. But it was one of the few daily routines she kept from her time in the army. She comes out of the woods when she sees Jacqui running and slows alongside her, matching her stride.]
