THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

[A stray soccer ball gently rolls towards Tokiya, stopping just by his feet. Soon after, Tenma runs towards him.]

Excuse--

[He stops himself when he realizes the other boy is singing. Not wanting to interrupt him, he patiently waits for him to finish or pause on his own accord.]

Ehehehe.. Sorry.

[ The soccer ball isn't enough to snap Tokiya out of his song, but Tenma's presence is - he ties up one of the verses neatly, letting the ending note trill in the air for about two seconds before he removes his headphones and turns off the music. He had looked happy when he was singing, but now his expression has returned to its usual chilly seriousness. ]

Be more careful next time.

[ Though he says this objectively, with only the slightest hint of disapproval. It was merely inconvenient, nothing else. ]

[soccerwhisperer]

[He laughs sheepishly, a little unsettled by how quickly the other boy's mood changed. The expression was familiar though. He had a habit of running into that.]

I will be! Sorry.

[He quickly retrieves his ball, but pauses mid-turn.]

You know, you sound familiar...

[tunedere]

[ Tokiya's expression sours immediately once Tenma finished his last sentence. ]

You must be mistaken.

[ And here he thought he might be able to escape the mask that had been crafted for him... well, he had an excuse for it, but he would really prefer not to talk about it at all. ]

[soccerwhisperer]

[Tenma's too lost in thought trying to remember where he might have heard his voice to pick up on yet another mood shift. Suddenly, he snaps his finger]

I know! You sound like my coach's friend from Hokkaido!

[Somewhere in another universe, Miyano Mamoru collapses from exhaustion]

Definitely mistaken.

[ At least he didn't mention HAYATO, which made it marginally better. But still, someone's coach... ]

[Tenma laughs]

Definitely. He's much older too.

[In comparison to Tenma himself anyway, especially since he didn't age for five years]

Fukuoka, huh... Did you come here straight from there?

[ He appears to consider the question for a moment, if only to weigh whether he should tell the truth or not. ]

No. I spent time in Tokyo before this.

[ Left vaguely enough to hopefully not be incriminating. ]

[He brightens at this]

I did the same thing too! I'm from Okinawa, but I went to school in Kantou before transferring here. What was living in Tokyo like? It's been a-- -[There's a sudden hiccup in this enthusiasm] --Um, about six years since I lived in Japan...

[ That hiccup certainly is noticed, but he doesn't comment on it. ]

Busy. Tokyo never sleeps.

[ Which might be saying quite a few things about himself, but he quickly moves on. ]

I mostly attended school, so that's that.

[soccerwhisperer]

I see. Inazuma Town is pretty quiet, except when it comes to soccer.

How are you liking America?

[tunedere]

[ Inazuma Town... he hadn't heard of it, actually. Being an idol restricted the news you tend to read. ]

Different form Tokyo, definitely. And they tend to be a lot more unrestrained with their thoughts.

[ Is that really the only thing you've noticed, Tokiya? ]

[soccerwhisperer]

[Tenma laughs at that]

Americans can be rude, but a lot of them are honest. I like that.

[tunedere]

[ He's quiet for a moment, while he considers this. Honesty can be appreciated, but he probably won't be giving much of that to other people. ]

I see. They will need tact to go with it, then.

[soccerwhisperer]

[He chuckles at this.]

One thing at a time...!

[Speaking of tact...]

Oh, I'm sorry, I kept asking you about yourself without even introducing myself. I'm Matsukaze Tenma, but everyone just calls me Tenma!

[tunedere]

[ It's a good change of topic, if anything else. ]

Ichinose Tokiya. Pleasure to meet you.

[ This is said a little less aloofly than he would otherwise, since he has to return Tenma's enthusiasm at least a little. ]

[soccerwhisperer]

[He seems to find this quite amusing]

Ichinose-san, huh? Hehe, my relative's boyfriend shares your family name! I think he's proposing soon, so she'll be an Ichinose too.

[It's overwhelmingly clear he has no idea who Tokiya is or was.]

[ In any other situation he would have just broken off the conversation and left, but the fact that Tenma didn't know about his public identity dampened the annoyance somewhat. ]

I don't think we are related.

[ He wouldn't call himself an orphan, but his mother's attitude came close enough.

At Tenma's last sentence, he just nods. ]
