THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

Of course the only way to logically deal with the knowledge that he's being watched... is to flip up onto the chimney and stare down at her as he perches like some deranged bird, smirking in a friendly manner.

"Hey."

...The fact that he figured out she was there was just adding questions to the pile. Who. Is. He? She jumped back so now she was standing on the edge, and she hated being out of the city cause there was nowhere to go. She didn't have any alleyways or fire escapes and she just glanced back at the survivable but unfriendly distance to the ground and then glared at him.

"Hi." She doesn't sound friendly.

He could technically jump forward to grab her so she's further from the edge... but she's also pretty quick and he might just scare her into jumping right off. So he stays perched where he is, giving a little wave.

"I'm Dick. What's your name?"

"What's it to you?"

Because if you ask a simple question cat will just refuse to answer out of spite! It's also best to keep her distance, when threatened she goes for the eyes. She's definitely still calculating the best way to get out of here if this kid is trouble, cause he has the skills and attitude to definitely be well acquainted with trouble.

"We're both students?" is the slow, playful response as he shrugs. "Probably close to the same age, so we might even share some classes?"

She's still fairly certain that this place is too good to be true, and she'll be sold off to some collector, or studied in a lab, or this is all a cover and it's a child prison in the basement. Trust issues might be underselling it, really. But... if any of those are the case this kid is far too... strange, to really be involved.

"...Cat." But it isn't like she'd give her real name even if she did like someone.

"Nice to meet you, 'Cat'."

He hops down from the chimney but stays back enough so she won't feel threatened. "I'm guessing you're new?"

"If you have to guess that you're not really bright."

At least her posture had gone from aggressive to just... mockingly casual, arms crossed in her leather jacket. She was clearly on the skinny side, but her hair and skin was showing signs of her malnourished and improper care all around. Even though everything had been recently cleaned, washed, and all around made to smell less like a gutter. But it hardly covered up the simple fact.

She did not feel a part of this place.

"Yeowch. Meow," he snorts, rolling his eyes as he takes a seat with the chimney to his back. Despite his deliberately casual, relaxed body-language, he's taking in her appearance carefully, cataloguing the signs of malnourishment, her obvious discomfort in the school, the 'catty' attitude, and venturing to make the educated guess that she's probably a former street-rat.

Or cat in this case.

"I'm from Gotham. You?"

She doesn't intend to pause quite so long as she did, when he says Gotham. But she does, her first instinct is what her instinct always is. Lie. But... she sits on the ledge of the roof and just sighs, "Same."

She doesn't comment on his complete originality on using meow after she says something directly offensive. She's fairly sure it'll only get him to make more comments of that nature.

"Really? Neat."

He's obviously pleased at meeting another Gothamite, even if she's still not that keen on the idea of him. "How'd you come to be at Xavier's then?"

"The esteemed Mayor decided to try to make a pitch for public love by getting all the homeless kids into foster homes, or prisons, whatever let it look like he cared. There's not enough to put me in a prison, and I'm not 'foster home material.'"

Translation: she got ripped out of the life she loved so someone could pretend he cared about kids to get reelected. She's not young enough, safe enough, or human enough to be given a real home she could just run away from in a few weeks when the Mayor doesn't need to pretend anymore.

Oh, right, information is useful. "You?"

"Mutation started to become obvious recently so ended up switching schools," he shrugged. "Didn't even know I had any mutations until this year. Better late than never right?"
