THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

"Ah ha, hey—I didn't expect to see anyone else out here."
He'd hoped he wouldn't.
"You're new here, huh?"

"I am! It's much smaller than my home waters but very cozy. Did you come here to swim?"

"Security officer Tohru Adachi!" he introduces himself, then adds, "but I'm not on duty now. I just came out here to think. And—" From his jacket pocket, he pulls out a book of English grammar. "Study!"
Adachi knows how to have a good time.

She pulls herself up, onto the pier. She's not much different from a normal human. Her legs are definitely seperate, though her feet have large webs, helping her to move more quickly through the water.
She sits next to him and peers at his book.
"What are you studying?"
You'll have to excuse her. She hasn't learned much about personal boundaries.

At least she calls him mister, shows some respect. He backs off, though, when she draws closer, not managing to be subtle about it. He holds out the book toward her, however, so she can see it clearly.
"English. I think I'm pretty good, but I could get better. I've been studying since I got here. Every day."

"You sound fine. So you're a guard, then? Where are your weapons?"
She looks him over, checking for...I dunno, a trident or something. Or a shank made from a shark's tooth. Something she'd recognize as deadly.

He really hates it here.
And then he hates it more, as she strikes at one of his sorest points suddenly, without any warning. He flinches. "No..." Adachi deflates visibly, sighing. "I've been petitioning for a gun! But they haven't let me have one yet." It's really unfair. "You know, the professor's not big on guns on campus and stuff, around the kids. I think it would be a good idea, though! You can't be too careful." He loves guns. A lot. At least when he was a cop, he got to carry a gun on duty. "I think it'd help keep the kids safer." That seems like a good reason, although it is not Adachi's actual reason.

"Are there not people here who are quite a bit more powerful than a gun?" She asks. Child safety is kindof a new concept to her.

The idea of not being constantly alert for danger, of seeing such nervousness as alarming, is new to her.
"By the way, if you see anyone dumping things into my lake, I give you full authorization to use any weapon you have on them."
She does not appear to be joking.

He nods, enthusiastically, pleased to have been given the go-ahead to use force. He doesn't seem to find her seriousness strange. "Sure! If you want me to protect the lake, I can do that! It's part of my rounds, anyway." Adachi has typically been assigned to the more out of the way areas on his patrols. "Can't have people messing with your place. I wouldn't want anyone dumping trash in my room."
