THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

[ Three and a half hours later he shows up at the infirmary, having showered and changed into a new set of clothes. His appearance is as neat as ever, with nothing out of place. ]
Good evening, Zian. [ There is a pause. ] Shall I use text, or would you prefer me to speak with you?
[ It's quite an important question, seeing that the other could not vocalize in the normal way. ]
no subject
A somewhat robotic voice comes from his mask, translating the signs he's making.]
Don't worry, I can still communicate. Speaking is just fine, I have excellent hearing.
It's nice to meet you, Doc.
no subject
Alright. It is nice to meet you, too.
[ He isn't exactly sure if a handshake is in order, and waits to see if Zian will initiate it. ] How are you settling in? I can help, if you'd like.
no subject
He does not, however, initiate a handshake. The wave seemed to have to do for now, as he preferred to use his hands for signing.]
I'm doing pretty good, so far. I found the gloves after some searching, and that has been my biggest problem.
no subject
Will you be stationed here all the time? I can drop by often, if you need someone to talk to.
[ He means it in the casual banter sort of way. Zian seems to be an extrovert, and that's what most extroverts do, right? ]
no subject
Yeah, I'll be here... or in my room, or the faculty lounge. Pretty easy to locate, in any case.
[Honestly the young man is probably a bit of both, seeing he tries too hard and is probably not sure what to do with himself... so babbling always works.]
Talking would be nice, even if I can imagine that the kids around here will need our attention a lot. Getting control over your powers can be... painful.
no subject
[ Speaking of which... ] By the by - does your immune system function similar to usual, or does it have something different?
[ He hasn't had to quarantine anyone, but... just in case. ]
no subject
Do you get many kids coming in with stomach pains and headaches before the big tests?
Oh, and yeah, everything else should be fine in there. [He pats his chest.] Just the throat that got messed up, everything else is in good condition.
no subject
[ No one lies to a living MRI scanner. He can actually detect blockages in your gut as well as blood vessels. ]
I see. That is good to hear.
[ At this point he's trusting Zian to know what he is doing - and he certainly does seem to - so no more technical questions for now. But Takakage isn't going to say something else just yet, seeing that the other might raise something else. ]
no subject
That's great! I'm sure we'll work out well together here.
[He pauses and then nods to the waiting area.]
There's a water boiler in the corner over there with tea cups, by the way. I did promise tea.
no subject
He retrieves a slim conductor's baton from inside his vest, and draws out a thin stream of water with a flick of his wrist. The water reforms into a sphere in midair, and he deposits it into the cup with a teabag. It'll be ready soon. ]
Do you have any hobbies to pass your time, perhaps?
[ It's an idle conversation starter, if anything else. ]
no subject
Mentioning hobbies, Zian looks a little bit embarrassed.]
I like music... and comics. Nerdy things, I guess. I also like to build things.
[Like dioramas and furniture.]
What about you, doc?
no subject
Ah, I mostly have academic pursuits. [ He chuckles, perhaps self-deprecatingly. ] I read extensively, but do dabble a little in gardening and sailing.
[ 'A little' is a severe understatement. He's taken on the job of curating the garden all by himself - though sailing is more of a reincarnation echo than anything else. His namesake (and previous life) was a naval commander, after all. ]
no subject
Reading is always nice, and I love nice gardens... I can't say I've ever sailed, though.
[That's a helluva garden to take care of!]
no subject
I could take you on a boat, if you'd like. But it will have to be one of the motorized ones - the ones without engines aren't exactly very stable with two people on it. [ He does fine on sailboats and kayaks, but that's more from his training and natural inability to be drowned than anything else.
There wasn't anyone to take care of the gardens, so might as well give it a makeover. And then he's been stuck as the honourary gardener ever since. ]
no subject
[He rubs the back of his neck at that, a bit embarrassed.]
I can't swim, though...
no subject
[ But if that isn't possible, they could always make one. ]
no subject
[He seems a bit amused, however.]
But I'd be happy to join you in gardening.
no subject
Ah, that might be a more favourable option. [ He says this with more of a smile - managing the garden is something he enjoys, but there is only so much one person can do with their time. ] I mostly tend to it alone, so your assistance would be much appreciated.
no subject
[Just something to do other than wander the infirmary like a nervous ghost all the time.]
no subject
[ Speaking of which. ] Quite regrettably, I have little of free time, so I might not be able to come down all that often. [ Even though he teaches only two classes he has the library to look after, as well as a master class on top of work at the hospital. ]
no subject
...does the hospital know you're a mutant?
no subject
[ Sure, he does use his skills during surgery and diagnosis, but subtly enough to pass it off as simply putting in more effort. He's just more careful than other doctors, that's all. ]
no subject
Sorry, it's not really my business...
