Weekly Update - Apr12th - Apr18th

OOC
APPS are still open and will remain so through the 14th! That means there's still time to go play on the Test Drive Meme, too!

SCHOOL NEWS
Winter is over; Prom is coming.

Zian would like all future junior superheroes to report for a mandatory check-up.

So far the most eligible date to the big dance is the local terrorist leader living in the sub-levels. Liir is so smooth.

Feliks and Fai don't need prom dates, though, because they finally got hitched.

Meanwhile, the school is gearing up for the first student government elections since the Institute's re-opening! You can sign characters up for election (or plot general shenanigans) here! (Bear in mind, students can nominate themselves or their classmates, so people who wouldn't put their name forward themselves might still end up on the ballot!)

Shindou wants to hit someone with a stick someone to beat him up a sparring partner.

If ya'll don't have some fodder for the RUMOR MILL during prom season, I don't know what to do with ya.

AROUND THE WORLD
With MLF-led riots having been put down on both the East and West coasts and organized activity by the group seemingly halted, the Kelly administration is publicly declaring victory in stemming the conflict between pro- and anti-mutant protesters.

Congressional opposition and pro-Registration pundits, however, have pushed back by noting that the MLF's leadership remains at large and could resurface at any time. Calls for Kelly to identify and bring into custody all high-level, American MLF leaders - most notably, the mysterious Claudine Renko - have become increasingly heated as open conflict continues to draw into a lull.

News reports about Ms. Renko are all incredibly vague, however, with no details as to her origins, intentions, or even nationality. Officially, her whereabouts are unknown, and the Kelly administration has publicly sought to downplay her significance within the MLF.

That being said, observant students might notice unmarked vehicles lurking around near the boundaries of the Institute campus with suspicious regularity...

WHO IS ASKING BRIDGET TO THE PROM THIS IS ACTUALLY KIND OF AN IMPORTANT QUESTION?

Shindou stuff:

1. Shindou's birthday is coming up later this month, and he'll be getting a visit from his parents to celebrate! And by "celebrate" I mean "make him totally lose it," since they're overdue for a talk about how playing superhero at a school that froze him in time for five years is maybe not something they approve of.

He'll be in panic mode about potentially being transferred away from the Institute going into May, if anyone wants either awkward encounters with Shindou's super-upper crust parents or just some overwrought stressing from him afterwards.

2. A lot of that stress is going to be funneled into his X-Training, so that might get pushed to borderline self-destructive levels, if ya'll want in on either dangerous enabling or intervention kinda stuff afterwards.

3. Tentatively interested in having him get nominated for 10th grade class rep? He wouldn't do it himself, though, so someone else would have to put his name forward, and then he would hate it but feel obliged to at least not withdraw.

4. Kid needs a date for the prom. This could either be cute and relaxing or painfully awkward or just a series of completely bad decisions! I'm open for all of the above, and Shindou's going to have so much else going on that any of them would be plausible.

Gilbert stuff:

1. Who wants their emotions royally fucked with? Since Gilbert got suckered into agreeing not to completely boycott his classes -- thanks, Liir -- he needs to make trouble some other way! And wildly irresponsible use of his empathic powers is going to be the order of the day.

In particular, I'd really like for him to use his abilities to send a few people tripping into euphoria and have that turn out badly. (People don't always make the best decisions when they're over the moon, and doing something stupid / blurting out something they shouldn't / just generally publicly embarrassing themselves could happen.) This could be either something Gilbert offers to let someone try recreationally that goes bad or, failing that, something he just foists onto someone out of either spite or boredom. He's not very considerate when it comes to the privacy of other people's heads.

Any takers?

2. In the meantime, he totally needs to connect with more of the mutant "radicals" on campus? He wouldn't be up for joining the pro-MLF team that's forming, unfortunately, and the school would have to be insane to let him on one even if he was. But people in this camp are the only ones who are likely to get (some) forbearance from Gilbert being a constant, little shit, so that's important.

3. Pissing someone off enough that he gets beat up, please. This can be related to (1) or not!

They still need people to do PR, since amazingly enough, Gilbert is the most socially adept among them

Gilbert is pretty overdue for helping Bridger realize how awful he is, anyway...

Just putting up a general plotting comment for prom. Raven, Moxxi, and Mona Lisa will all be attending, one way or another.
