THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

[There's a moment of silence, and then:]

It's cool. I don't mind.

Anyway, yeah, we can totally talk about spraypaint! [He straightens back up in his seat again.] Whaddya wanna know?

Well... how about why everyone's making it harder for you to get your hands on it? Are you a graffiti artist or something?
skullphones: (Imp ⇔ so stop believing)

I totally am.

[Can you hear his ego swelling back up a little, Elizabeth? Because that's what that sound is.]

I had to leave the Institute for a few years, but before that I was totally the best one on campus. [Also probably the only one on campus, but Elizabeth doesn't need to know that.] And then they found my stash and confiscated it while I was gone, so now I gotta go into the city to get more.

[Oh she can hear it. But it's... nice to see someone so excited about something artistic. Especially art that she's had zero exposure to.]

Wait, so you were doing it on campus buildings? No wonder they confiscated it.
skullphones: (WUT ⇔ then came the answer)

[It's a little bit depressing to think about for too long, but art is really the only thing Beat's good for. He stopped caring about anything but fun and adrenaline many years ago. Soon enough, he's going to regret that decision immensely... but not just yet.]

Uh, of course. Where else am I supposed to do it on, the floor?

Might be interesting. [She actually smiles at that.] It just seems like a waste to me. You make something beautiful knowing that it's going to be destroyed when someone paints over it. There must be some place in the city where it would be appreciated.

[personal profile] skullphones 2014-08-28 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? That doesn't matter to me. As long as someone sees it, and gets it, before it's covered up, I did my job.

And besides, it's fun. And I always take pictures.

Ohh... it's like, ephemeral art! Site-specific! [She's familiar with the terms, but having only read about them she's a little excited to be finally applying them to real-world things.]

Do you have any pictures on you?
skullphones: (??? ⇔ with schools of deep complexion)

[personal profile] skullphones 2014-08-28 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... sure? [Sorry, Liz, but Beat isn't smart enough to know what ephemeral art is.]

And yeah, I do. Man, my phone is so old now... [He fishes it out. It's a smartphone circa 2012, but it still has a camera feature. He begins flipping through his old work.]

[personal profile] tearmeanewone 2014-08-28 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's okay Beat, she pretty much knows nothing else.]

Is it? [Elizabeth tilts her head at the phone-- it looks pretty much like the other phones she's seen some of the kids carrying. She doesn't have one yet.]

[The pictures though are nothing like what she's imagined graffiti to look like. She'd gotten the impression that graffiti was nothing but illegible words or letters, done in seconds to avoid being seen. But this looks like it takes hours, and it's so interesting to look at.]

...you're really okay with these being covered up? [Her tone suggests that she thinks it's even more of a shame for it to be covered up now that she's seen it.]
skullphones: (Chibi ⇔ are you happy?)

[personal profile] skullphones 2014-08-29 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hours? Meh. Depends on the complexity of the piece and how many times Beat has done it before. Growing up in Tokyo-to, where cops are on his ass real soon, he's gotten pretty good at throwing it up quick.]

Well, it's not like I can't just make more. This stuff is real easy to replicate. And besides, out in the cities, they don't even bother to cover up graffiti anymore; they just let it pile on top of itself.
