THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

[Elsa takes a sharp intake of breath. She didn't expect anyone to run into her, especially not anyone as... well, intimidating as this guy..]

[Still, he has moved on to a new topic of conversation, so she takes that lifeboat happily. Getting stuck in awkward apology loops is not the best way to start a relationship with someone new. Elsa needs to think some more about how much she should tell this guy; he seems to be nice enough, if a little rough around the edges, judging from the tone he just took with her. (And that's assuming she interpreted it right.)]

Well, I just left my home country when... there were still problems to be resolved. They are weighing on me.

[Well, he can tell from her accent that English is not her first language. So his speech slows a bit and becomes a bit clearer for her sake.]

I'm sure they can spare you if you really need to be here. [He may look and sound gruff, but at least he's trying to seem nice.] You're here because of a control problem, aren't you? [He can relate, definitely.] If it's bad enough to leave the continent for, you won't be much help anyway until you've finished training. Might as well wait until then to worry about your country.

[She notices the slowed speech and frowns slightly. Look, she had nothing to do for most of her life but study. She can handle fluent English speech, it just takes her a moment to respond. ...But of course she says none of this, because as rude as he's being, she doesn't want to be on his level.]

My work has no direct connection to my mutation. There are still decisions to be made, things to be done, that I could do without involving my powers at all. However, you are correct in saying that it is better for me to learn now, so that I don't have these troubles in the future. But no matter how good of a decision it is to study here, I am still bound to my people. I am sure you understand.

["I am sure you understand". Huh. It's weird for someone to assume he knows anything about loyalty. But he's definitely not going to argue; his whole purpose in being here has boiled down on his end to trying to prove he's a good person.]

Even if your powers aren't part of your politics, you need to concentrate on your powers right now. That's why you're here. Trust me, if all you think about is your powers and your people, you'll drive yourself crazy. And all countries have problems, you're not gonna be able to make every decision it needs in your lifetime.

[He pauses, and frowns.]

This is your time to be a kid. You've got some time to make mistakes and lose control and maybe even learn how to do something productive with it. That's more than some of us have. Calm down, take advantage of being here, and then you can worry about your country. You won't have the chance when you go back.

[Trust him. He still hasn't gotten out of the habit of losing control and making terrible mistakes.]

I am sorry, do I know you?

...Not personally. You might have heard a few less-than-pleasant things.

[A pause.]

You can stop me if I'm prying too much.

I appreciate your concern, sir, but yes. You are prying a bit too much.

Sorry, I'll stop. I, uh... was a sheriff back in my hometown. I'm used to rooting around in everyone's business.

I understand. [Her expression finally softens somewhat.] Thank you for looking out for me.

[Uh... he's not very comfortable with gratitude. That's still new and weird.]

At least, you know, you can talk to me if you need someone to talk to. Or just want to beat something up, I have plenty of things you can use for that. [Occasionally people too, but he's gonna guess a queen wouldn't be interested.]

Thank you. [Beating things up isn't really her jam either. Even though this man seems a little... too forward, she appreciates the help.] I don't believe I got your name.

Oh, right.

["I'm the big bad wolf", he's tempted to say. But he likes her so far, he wouldn't want to risk spooking her.]

It's Bigby. Bigby Wolf. And I know your name, but... should I call you anything in particular?

Elsa. Elsa is fine, Mr. Wolf, thank you.

[An awkward pause passes between them. Elsa looks off somewhere away from Bigby's face, a distinctly un-queenly gesture.]

How... how common is knowledge of my situation?

Elsa it is, then.

[At least he wasn't totally fucking up by not calling her 'Your Highness', he decides.]

The media's pretty bend on shoving it and anything else they can come up with about it down our throats. As far as I care, you're a normal student with control issues who happens to own a country. I also remember something about your sister being in charge while you're here, but I don't know enough about her to judge... [He pauses to light himself a cigarette. The air's getting a bit too clean for his overpowered senses.] ...Everything I know seems pretty average as far as I can tell. Sorry.

[Yeah, she's not terribly fond of being addressed as royalty out here. It serves to remind her of the country she thinks she abandoned, as well as the fact she may never get away from that damned crown and grow up to be a normal human being. That's Elsa's main goal here, really. Become normal.]

Thank you. Yes, Anna can be... reckless sometimes, but she is brave and loving and a very worthy co-monarch. I have faith that even if I cannot be there with her, between myself and the royal advisors, she will succeed.

[He's never been that close to his own siblings, but the obvious affection for Anna makes him smile.]

Well, you seem pretty level-headed. If you think she can do it, she probably can. Your country'll be fine while you're here.
