THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

[Fai is showing absolutely no remorse as she shoves him, but a definite amount of fondness even as he reaches for the napkins in an attempt to make the best of his shirt and slightly smudged make-up. At least the lab coat took the worst of it, and it has seen a lot worse than tea.]

I have faith in the stoutness of your heart, my dear. I have seen you laminate people against the boards; I refuse to believe that you're that fragile.

[Not that it wouldn't have shocked the living daylight out of him, but that is neither here nor there.]

Besides, if I mess about like this it's almost as if we're not responsible adults and teachers all of a sudden, right?

I don't know why I even fell for it for a second. He never called me bella towards the end, just 'woman' in that voice that made it sound like an insult. [ She waves her hand and places her chin on her hand] Really, so silly of me.

[His remark reminds her of the papers scattered in a less than orderly pile at her feet and she leans over, shuffling them back into order]

I resent that remark, I've been responsible for the last few years. Paying taxes, going to classes. Getting a degree. Have to make up for teenage runaway somehow.

I'm still relieved you two broke up, you know. You deserved better.

Oh, I know. But I'm good at being convincing.

[He waves a hand airily. The thing about his glamours was that he really wasn't actually shape shifting, which of course had its own drawbacks - no way of getting past thumb and retinal scans, bane of his existence - but it did come with some perks too. Like the fact that he was literally overriding what the person was perceiving and convincing their mind of his version instead. It was hard enough not to believe your eyes, without your mind being half convinced already.]

And don't tell anyone, but so have I. The whole thing. Collages, taxes, studying until my eyes cross, spending hours at a time in the lab. Disgraceful, isn't it?

[Fai makes a small, amused noise, fishing out a small mirror as he attempts to make himself look less like a happy panda.] And I know I did. So did he. [Because Fai will never not be adamant about his own blame in that mess - which is not to say he thinks he deserved the way he was treated. It was just that he'd practically pushed the relationship down the throat of someone who was violently signalling that he wasn't ready for such a thing, and he'd had no business acting surprised when the whole thing blew up. Besides...] No~ot that he's the worst asshole I've ever been together with. Not by a long shot. So in that way, I guess I haven't grown up at all.

I swear Fai, do you ever learn? I mean, if Lovino wasn't the biggest asshole you've dated, how low have you gone? How do you get worse than abusive Italian who could make you deaf?

[She sets the papers to one side and tilts her head at him]

And Amelia said I had bad taste.

[Fai laughs a bit sheepishly, scratching his cheek.] To be fair, I am a lot better at cutting things short once they go bad. It's just that things have a tendency of escalating pretty quickly, and go really bad.

[Basically, he just seems drawn to people who will mess him up in some way.] So there's been... let's see, one guy beat me senseless and I had to call the cops on him - he threw whiskey in my eyes first so I couldn't defend myself. And then there's- [Starting to count things off on his fingers] -your standard serial unfaithfulness, married without telling me, addicted to drugs, involved in organized crime...

[He stops and shrugs, smiling a bit wryly.] I just have the worst luck. [And really shitty taste.]

[She puts her chin on her hand and just stares]

Yeah. Yeah Amelia is never allowed to criticize my taste ever ever again. Fai--just date someone you've known fro more than a few days! Be friends first, it's a simple equation! If you go into things to be their friend, maybe you'd find out the married stuff and addicted stuff and the organized crime stuff before it became an issue in your relationship.

[Yes, girl in the same relationship for five years, tell this boy how to date. Go ahead.]

[His lips twitch slightly in amusement and he rakes a hand through his hair.]

It's not like I don't try. But I'm not... actually that good at just making friends, I guess. I'm social, but I have poor impulse control. If I'm attracted to someone, I end up sleeping with them before we manage to get really close.

[Because he's self sabotaging. Because he already knows he won't actually love them as much as he loves Feliks. Good job.]

But I was friends with the girl with the addiction. And the guy who beat me. [He rubs a hand over his face, accidentally smearing mascara.] And that made the breakup hurt all the more. So I guess in a way, it's more practical not to get too attached before getting together with people.

Or you're a bad judge of people at times. I mean, we both made the crappy decision to date one guy but you were the one who made it after I broke up with him and you saw the reasons I had. You're just a bit too...willing to let things go I think.

Forgiving maybe? Who knows. What I do know is you need to find someone who deserves you as much as you like them.

[She reaches to take a sip of her tea, all wise and knowing but that's ruined when she sips nothing at all. Drat]
