THE TEST DRIVE MEME

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

[The silence is making her uncomfortable, then. He falls back a little, far enough to glance at her when he speaks.]

I've taught World History here for around 10 years. The department is getting a little crowded, so I may be branching out into Japanese or Literature, depending on demand...

I'm the coach for the kendo club, as well.

[Not that he imagines she'd be interested in the latter -- but he's been surprised before. Very much so, in some cases.]

[Just about everything is making her uncomfortable to some degree, even things she normally enjoys. Like silence.]

You have a lot of talents. [A great observation, Elsa tells herself sarcastically as soon as the words are out of her mouth. Her only real talents were cryokinesis and buckling under pressure.] Do you need to take additional classes to teach a different subject?

[Look, the American school system is weird, okay.]

[A lot of talents? He supposed it was true enough, but it felt kind of empty to hear, and shrugged a little bit.]

Well, it depends somewhat on the area and the school, and private schools have a number of exemptions open to them. You need to have qualifications in both subjects, though. I was a double major in history and literature, though. And I'm from Tokyo, so...

[Another small shrug. Japanese isn't exactly a challenge for him.]

[Look, she's a queen with ice powers. Almost everything she says feels empty to hear.]

Ah, I see. That makes sense. [Must have been very difficult to juggle all that coursework... from the limited amount of knowledge Elsa has about college, even one major is a lot for many people.]

[And after another short pause:] Thank you for helping me.

It isn't out of my way.

[That's only not a lie in that he's only walking for the sake of walking anyway; he doesn't have much of a destination to be diverted from, so what's the harm? Doesn't seem like the sort of detail she needs, though.]

This place doesn't have the most intuitive of layouts. You'll get your bearings soon enough, but people won't usually mind showing you around until you do.

[Another pause, as Elsa tries to work up the courage for what she's going to say next.]

I'm grateful that everyone here is so considerate. My stay here so far has been much nicer than I expected.

[Of course, she expected to be gunned down and killed by anti-mutant radicals as soon as she arrived, because that's just how Elsa's life works.]

[And he was half expecting everyone here to be gun-toting xenophobes, but in the end, he's glad he gave it a try.]

Well, everyone at the school has been a newcomer at one point or another.

[And most of them know what it's like. The loneliness, the fear of getting run out of other communities.]

[He opens the door, waving her in with his free hand.]
