THE TEST DRIVE MEME

Hello, True Believers!

This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.

Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!

Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

I am usually available whenever I am not teaching, except during the daytime of the weekends. I work at the hospital during that time.

But of course, if there is an emergency I will return as fast as I can.

Well, I'm pretty much always in the infirmary unless I'm sleeping, so you could come in at your convenience. I'll even make tea.

I trust that I can leave it in your care, then. Most of the staff and students came to see me before this, but us sharing the load will ensure they can receive proper administration at all times.

Oh! Yeah, of course! I supercharge the body's natural healing with a spark - or if they're not hurt, the immune system.

[ Please don't disturb the students' rest. ]

I see. Though would this supercharging exhaust their natural source of energy, then? Seeing that healing requires ATP for cellular activity and the normal pace of oxidative phosphorylation of mitochodria may not be able to keep up.

[ And that would lead to anaerobic respiration and a toxic buildup of lactic acid. Not pretty at all. ]

I've only ever experienced the side effect... or pre-effect, that the charge itself can be painful depending on severity. Small things might be a static buzz, life-threatening things a defibrillator shock. The only person it exhausts is me.

No worries, Doc! I mostly use it for serious things and making sure people don't get sick, like in my post. Vaccine and a tap and man those illnesses do not have a chance!

Otherwise I do have extensive medical training, even if I could never go to med school. My father was a famous surgeon back in Russia and taught me as much as he could. So I can do things from normal care to field surgery in a pinch.

...I might need some help with my feeding tube sometimes, though.

I can assist with that, if you'd like. In addition to my training, I am a hydrokinetic, and have experience in guiding fluid systems. [ That's a metaphor for manipulating bodily fluids. ] I can perceive the structure of the human body in a way, by registering their water distribution. Think of it as a mobile MRI scan.

That's... actually great for me. I kinda lost the lottery in physical mutations and I got sick as a kid so shit happened and now I eat from a bag. Keeping that in shape is a chore so if you can just swish things along in case of issues that would be amazing.

[ Yes good. The two of them can be buddies and Zian can stop Takakage from working himself to death (again). ]

Of course. If something malfunctions please do not hesitate to call me. [ Takakage had been quite lucky - his mutation did not cause any physical changes, and he has been careful not to reveal his ability in public. ]

Might I ask if your biological structure and anatomy is altered significantly as well?

Yeah I'm generally fucked up. I can't talk, either, and I breathe through my sternum. Russia had this... issue with mutants and there was a plague for a while so I lost my trachea and esophagus. Thankfully my dad's a technopath as well and did some rearranging. Other than that I'm fine health-wise. I just look like a monster.

Don't say that.

You are no monster, just styled to a different aesthetic. The true monsters are those that show warm smiles yet harbour great evil in their hearts. [ And there are always too many of them, especially in this era of human-mutant tensions. ]

May I have your permission to scan your internal structure? I will not touch you or anything of the sort - I merely require your static presence for an extended amount of time.

[ Moving disrupted his concentration, especially when he is trying to read the water construction of something as complicated as a person. ]

[ Three and a half hours later he shows up at the infirmary, having showered and changed into a new set of clothes. His appearance is as neat as ever, with nothing out of place. ]

Good evening, Zian. [ There is a pause. ] Shall I use text, or would you prefer me to speak with you?

[ It's quite an important question, seeing that the other could not vocalize in the normal way. ]

[The seven-feet purple elf mutant turns, happy to see that man he assumed was the doctor he had spoken to earlier. Waving a bit, he then starts signing.

A somewhat robotic voice comes from his mask, translating the signs he's making.]

Don't worry, I can still communicate. Speaking is just fine, I have excellent hearing.

It's nice to meet you, Doc.

[ There is the faintest hint of surprise upon his visage, but it is quickly banished and replaced with his usual calm half-smile. ]

Alright. It is nice to meet you, too.

[ He isn't exactly sure if a handshake is in order, and waits to see if Zian will initiate it. ] How are you settling in? I can help, if you'd like.

[Zian would probably have been a bit concerned if there was no reaction at all, so he takes it all in stride, smiling under the mask.

He does not, however, initiate a handshake. The wave seemed to have to do for now, as he preferred to use his hands for signing.]

I'm doing pretty good, so far. I found the gloves after some searching, and that has been my biggest problem.

[ Takakage responds with a nod. ] Ah, that is good. [ Unlike most other people, he hasn't reacted to Zian's mutations in the slightest. Being a surgeon acclimatizes oneself to quite a lot of things. ]

Will you be stationed here all the time? I can drop by often, if you need someone to talk to.

[ He means it in the casual banter sort of way. Zian seems to be an extrovert, and that's what most extroverts do, right? ]

[Zian already thinks that Takakage should meet his dad. They'd probably have a lot in common.]

Yeah, I'll be here... or in my room, or the faculty lounge. Pretty easy to locate, in any case.

[Honestly the young man is probably a bit of both, seeing he tries too hard and is probably not sure what to do with himself... so babbling always works.]

Talking would be nice, even if I can imagine that the kids around here will need our attention a lot. Getting control over your powers can be... painful.

Indeed. [ He says this with a sigh. ] Fortunately, most of the patients I've had to see are down with diseases instead of injuries.
