THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

Booker Dewitt | Bioshock Infinite | i failed to resist
[Booker is a simple man, he doesn't like having to use technology. So a lot of people may not recognize this face, but boy... he sure does look mad.]
Okay, for the last time, kids, would it kill ya to pick up your own garbage for once? I'm not your maid. I mean... [He presses a hand to his face.] I mean I am the janitor but- you know what I mean. You make my life hard and Xavier doesn't pay me enough for the crap I find around here.
Some break I got leaving the battlefield for this. [He hates his life. So much.]
[2 - Action]
[Booker is a little more recognizable in person. And by a little I mean A WHOLE LOT. Between looking like a Vermont thrift store threw up on him and the fact that, well, half of his janitor duties are actually spent picking out leftover food and drinks that students threw out and adding them to his diet of only-your-strongest-whiskeys, he paints quite an image in everyone's minds.
Today you will run into him cleaning a nearby area, and he may pause to chat. But more likely he's muttering to himself about something ("I hate this place" and "Anna would love it here" come up a lot, as does "what the hell are they eating these days") and you will be drawn to add your input because, well, it's rather sad to see this middle-aged man who is more hobo than custodian mumbling to himself while he cleans toilets and fixes broken doors to the best of his ability.
Really, Booker is just a sad sight when he's not in combat.]
network, filtered from the kids
[He laughs.
Adachi is not the most outgoing person, but it's a chance to complain about kids! And he doesn't mind the janitorial staff as much as the faculty. As a member of security, he can relate.]
no subject
I think I could make bingo cards outta all the crazy ways mutant kids can fuck up a bathroom, but I don't wanna think about it that long. [Some uncontrolled powers are just... ugh.]
But a job's a job, I guess... [This was easier to tell himself when he was killing people for a living.]
no subject
That would be too much work. And too much about work. Better not to think about it unless we have to. I try not to when I'm off duty! Just put it all out of my head and relax. As much as I can.
Yeah, we do what we have to do. I bet none of the teachers knows the half of what we have to go through.
no subject
[Although sometimes some chips are left at the bottom and that's nice.]
You're one o' the security guards, right? Lucky bastard. [Yeah if that doesn't illustrate how bad it is...]
no subject
I know all about shitty jobs.
Don't be too sure you want mine. They just made me start a security club, teaching kids to be narcs—I mean, public safety officers.
Though—okay, I hear you with the acid puke. You win.
[Adachi perks up with interest. Most things involving guns have that effect on him.]
Hired gun, huh? What was that like?
no subject
[Although there was that one job, the one the Lutece twins sent him on... h-he doesn't want to think about it.]
I guess I wasn't in a great place when I had the job, though. Took it up after getting kicked out of, uh... a sort of vigilante agency. That, and...
[And that one time he sold his daughter for booze.]
...Let's just say I'm no one to be proud of knowing.

Action
It is a wonder what people eat these days, isn't it? Mostly junk food. But if you are so hungry....
[She pulls out her own lunch, it was a nice lunch, made of the sort of ingredients you find at fancy gourmet supermarkets and high end restaurants.]
You may have my lunch, I don't need it.
Action
After a moment he frowns. Part of him still does the numbers on how much money something that fancy-looking should cost, even though it shouldn't matter and he could probably get himself something similar if he wanted.]
That's fine, miss, I don't need it either. [He glances back into the trash bin he was rooting through.] ...There is a good explanation for what I'm doing. I swear.
[Yeah, that sounds trustworthy, Booker. Not that he knows what to say... admitting he's been banned from a good portion of the local stores and restaurants and even several bars doesn't make a good impression. Neither does admitting he got into the habit after falling into a terrible depression from selling his daughter to repay gambling debts. So he just kind of looks like a deer in headlights while he tries to come up with some great story.]
Re: Action
Ah, but at least remember there is a cafeteria on campus.
[She was already filling in whatever he might tell her with her assumptions, at least with her hearing abilities it was generally accurate, as long as there were desires to follow to a logical conclusion. But this usually meant she would skip parts of a discussion at the dismay of whomever she was talking to. But in this case perhaps it was better, Booker wouldn't have to try and badly explain a bad situation. Though Miko wasn't sure if she should feel potty for a pathetic man, or shock that someonecould really hit so low.
And as for the lunch, are you sure? You seemed interested. No reason to hold back.
no subject
No, I know, I'm uh... I'm a little nervous about going in there. Big crowds and all. [Sigh.] And I couldn't take your lunch, miss. It'd be awfully forward.
[He does kind of really want it, though.]
no subject
Why not enter when everyone is in class or away? I'm sure there's down time at some point. And really, its not forward at all. You want it, and I really would rather not seeing you dig in that trash... So let's think of it as a trade.
no subject
[He sloooowly reaches over to take the meal. Okay, lunch today is going to be awesome. He mumbles a quick "thanks" before storing it away to eat where she doesn't have to see him shoving it into his face like a crazy hobo.]
And seriously, the trash thing... isn't a big deal. It's a waste just throwing that food out anyway. Kids in Africa... and... all that junk.

Door giving you trouble?
no subject
I reckon it's been through more trouble than me, today. [Rest in peace, door.] Unless you've got door-mending powers I'm handling it just fine.
[He doesn't have a particularly friendly voice by default but at least he isn't trying to make Auron leave.]

[And somehow he ended up with this job.]
You need something?

[Someone who is not there and very well might never have been, but Booker prefers to tell himself she somehow was real. That makes him feel less crazy.]

[Nagito you're sounding older than you are... and why are you excluding yourself from that statement?]
If you want, I can help clean. At least I can be of some use that way.
no subject
[It is most definitely a hypocritical statement since Booker cleans up all the messes he complains about. But it's his job. It's different if this kid just decides to randomly become everyone's maid for free.]
no subject
[Except maybe his own hair but-]
You're the janitor? But... since you work here at this academy, you have a 'talent', right?
[That's his weird way of referring to mutant powers...]
no subject
[What a weird kid.]
Protective force-fields. Powered by booze. Useful in battle, not really anytime else. That's not really the point, though... I'm the janitor because I asked to be, not because I'm no good anywhere else.
[Although he is pretty useless as a teacher.]
no subject
I'm sure you can use your force-fields without having to be in a fight. You just need to use a little bit of imagination.
no subject
[Terrible joke. Sigh.]
Got any thoughts on how it's so useful out of combat?
