THE TEST DRIVE MEME
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
We also ask that you please pardon our dust. We're working very hard to get this game up and running and hope to be open by September 1st!

Ugh. Glad to know they're still pumping out just as much shitty TV as they used to.
[He props an elbow on the arm on the sofa and leans his head on it, staring at the screen.] So you're having a sit-around-and-watch-awful-sitcoms kind of day too, huh?

Did you hear about the women's showers flooding this morning?
[Yep. Her fault.]

[Beat was wondering why everyone was so pissed today -- not just at him, which is par for the course, but at everyone.]
What, were you in there when it happened or something?
no subject
[Laugh track. Elizabeth scowls and pulls a throw pillow over her lap.] Someone thought I was her friend, she ripped open the curtain and I panicked.
no subject
[ ... ]
You in trouble?
no subject
[Because it was an accident? Because the institute was trying to break years of indoctrination and attempts to control her?]
I feel like the poster child for control classes now, though. What about you? Why aren't you doing something way more exciting?
no subject
[That's because you do "something like that" on a regular basis, kiddo.]
I'm not doin' something exciting because I've got nothing exciting to do. The bastards made it a hell of a lot harder to find spraypaint here than it used to be, an' someone must have found and stolen my stash in the time I was conked out.
[Siiiiiiigh.]

Oh, well, I'll go back to the faculty and insist they imprison and starve me for trying to protect myself!
[She stares, hands shaking, realizing what she blurted out. Composing herself after that is hard.]
... so you're one of the students who was in stasis, then.
no subject
That escalated quickly.

[And she's really regretting letting herself go there right now. Acknowledging her powers was stressful for her, causing a problem with them was even worse. It wasn't as though she felt lucky not being punished, she wondered if she should have been. She always had been, the year before coming to school. Accidental or intentional, it hadn't mattered, her 'father' still tried to force her to stop for good.]
...bad memory.
Is it alright if we just talk about spraypaint?
no subject
It's cool. I don't mind.
Anyway, yeah, we can totally talk about spraypaint! [He straightens back up in his seat again.] Whaddya wanna know?

[Can you hear his ego swelling back up a little, Elizabeth? Because that's what that sound is.]
I had to leave the Institute for a few years, but before that I was totally the best one on campus. [Also probably the only one on campus, but Elizabeth doesn't need to know that.] And then they found my stash and confiscated it while I was gone, so now I gotta go into the city to get more.
no subject
Wait, so you were doing it on campus buildings? No wonder they confiscated it.
no subject
Uh, of course. Where else am I supposed to do it on, the floor?
no subject

And besides, it's fun. And I always take pictures.
no subject
Do you have any pictures on you?
no subject
And yeah, I do. Man, my phone is so old now... [He fishes it out. It's a smartphone circa 2012, but it still has a camera feature. He begins flipping through his old work.]
no subject
Is it? [Elizabeth tilts her head at the phone-- it looks pretty much like the other phones she's seen some of the kids carrying. She doesn't have one yet.]
[The pictures though are nothing like what she's imagined graffiti to look like. She'd gotten the impression that graffiti was nothing but illegible words or letters, done in seconds to avoid being seen. But this looks like it takes hours, and it's so interesting to look at.]
...you're really okay with these being covered up? [Her tone suggests that she thinks it's even more of a shame for it to be covered up now that she's seen it.]
no subject
Well, it's not like I can't just make more. This stuff is real easy to replicate. And besides, out in the cities, they don't even bother to cover up graffiti anymore; they just let it pile on top of itself.
