HEAVY IS THE HEAD, Part One Finish

Some threads sort of petered off, but the results are ultimately the same. Here they are as follows:
- The Brotherhood attacked the National Guard relief efforts in District X in the name of Genosha. Genosha has accepted this claim, and all of the Brotherhood were wearing variations on Genoshan uniforms.
- In spite of this, it was obvious to the X-kids helping out in District X that the National Guard wasn't just there for relief efforts, but seem to be actively keeping people inside the area. This is happening in mutant ghettos all over the country.
- The Brotherhood (some rather gleefully) pointed this out during the fight, nothing that the X-Men were also considered potential threats to national security
- The X-kids were temporarily taken into military custody, had their wounds treated, and were released into Xavier's care shortly thereafter
- Due to all of this, getting out of the country through official means for a mutant is damn near impossible, so the Institute has been more crowded than usual during the holidays.
We'll be bringing in the New Year with another Newsreel Mingle when it happens, but for now, look forward to a special announcement from Emma Frost with regards to...

And now the fun part! )

A Sinister Legacy [FINAL STAGE]

Hello True Believers.

This is the final stretch of the Sinister Legacy event! Through research, interrogation, and help from Professor Xavier, the location of Sinister's lab has been found—a live, active one.

There's just a slight problem: it's in the Savage Lands.

In Antarctica.

Now, while you'll have access to the Blackbird, that's still a considerable distance—and there will most likely be a fight at the end. Volunteers will be needed for the mission, once again.

You can sign up as a team or individually for this event.

And as always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Good morning, True Believers.

The plot logs have been going on for a while now, so in the interest of freeing people up to post about what's been going on since the night of the recovery mission, we're going to go ahead wrap things up OOC here (and IC on the network, shortly.) Feel free to continue tagging the logs as long as you'd like, but we're going to be moving things along from this point on.

The key things that happened during the event were:
-While rioting did break out near the lab in District X, efforts to defend it were successful by and large. Several of the rioters have been taken into custody, and peace, however tenuous, has been restored.
-The runaways found Sinister's lab and managed to recover some research notes... which were, unfortunately, encrypted.
-The recovery team caught up to the runaways, and were able to bring them home in one piece... at least, most of them.
-Which brings us to the biggest shakeup of this event: Nightcrawler is no longer with us.

A news mingle just went up here, and an IC announcement (which will IC-ly take place before the news post) will be posted soon.

Thank you for your participation in this event, and again, feel free to continue tagging as long as you'd like!

A Sinister Legacy [Part 4]

Hello True Believers.

I hope you're ready for some events because boy have we got a set for you. Beginning on Saturday and lasting a good while there will be a few games to play for those who are sick, those who are on teams, and those who are stuck back on campus.

-For those who are sick, congratulations, you're going to have a jailbreak. That's right, Nightcrawler is going to bamf you out to the safety of a large boat while the medical staff and doctors are kept distracted by a violent fight between Zancrow and Flik. Nightcrawler's condition has been getting worse and worse and the roguish imp that he is is going to take you to London by boat, to Sinister's first lab where there could be clues to the origins and maybe even a way to hold back the virus.

-Once this event has occurred, a period of a 5 days will pass before the next events start. The first and main event will be one of the X-teams having been specifically sent out after the people who escaped the quarantine. This will put the two groups in direct conflict, there will be a fight as the sick refuse to be trapped when there could be a cure or something they can find to stem the tide and save their own lives. If they are interested, characters who show an aptitude for healing will be allowed to go with the X-team.

-At the same time, the other X-teams will be given individual missions tied into the main plot as well in both combat and non-combat events if your team doesn't feel up to it.

-If your team is interested in a mission, comment under the sign-up post and specify whether you want combat or non-combat. If there is a storyline reason you think your team would chase after the sick, specify in your combat sign up and the mods will decide which team to send adding that factor in to how we choose.

-If you want to be involved, comment under the Individual sign-up comment under sign ups and we'll see about sorting you into a team on a temporary basis for the event.

-As always, if you have any questions, please comment in the appropriate area.

Things will be ramping up over the next couple of months and they start here so get out there and have fun!

Hello, True Believers!

It's time we talked about the state of the game.

The Institute has never been a big game (and plenty of us like it that way!) but for several months now, we've been struggling to keep things going here. Activity has been slow overall, and in the last month or two particularly, we've been losing a lot of characters and had very few coming in. The Test Drive is incredibly slow right now. In addition, character drops have reduced several teams to below the required three students per team.

What all of this means is this: we're going to do what we can to help things pick up. We plan to reorganize the teams again, to get them back in working order. We're also going to focus more on providing small, team-based missions and training logs, to be sure everyone has opportunities to get themselves involved (in addition to the usual mingle log fare). We'd also, as always, be happy to hear anyone's suggestions for how to improve the game, or to get any Player Plot ideas you might have!

However, if things continue to slow down and we don't see an uptick in activity or applications in the next couple of months, it's possible that we may start moving towards wrapping up the game. We want to stress that we're not at the point of making that decision yet, but do want people to be aware that it's a discussion that's on the table at this rate.

With the hard part said, let's talk about what we can all do now!

-The existing teams are on the Team Directory, and have recently been updated. If you want to join an existing team, talk it over with the members' players (especially the adviser or student leader's), then comment on that post to be added! To find a team that's looking for members, check the comments of this post. You can also feel free to make a new team (and to discuss making one in the comments, but we are trying to fill out the ranks of the teams we've got, first.
-If fighting isn't your character's thing so much, the same page also lists some softer and fluffier clubs they might be interested in.
-There will also be a mini-event coming for everyone who is sick.
-Once again, Player Plots are always welcome!
-...And in general, just get out there and tag each other and have a good time!

Thanks as always for your time, patience, and general excellence. If you've got any questions, concerns, or suggestions, feel free to hit us up anytime!

-Your Astonishing X-Mods

A Sinister Legacy [Part 3]

Boy things have been pretty stressful lately haven't they? Looks like a good time for the kids to have a break. Don't worry, there is still serious work to do for those of you who want it.
1. Dazzler! Live in Concert at the Central Park Summer Stage. Hang out with your classmates and teachers and take in the concert from wherever you want. There are merchandise and food vendors all throughout in the large grassy expanse so relax and have a picnic as you take in the show. After the show is over the building behind the stage opens up to you for a private VIP party for you to hang out with Dazzler herself. That's right, you get full access to a genuine music superstar in a fully catered party just for you and the people of District X.

2. Those who don't want to go have the option of joining Hank McCoy and Logan in an investigation into the recent outbreak in District X. How far has it spread? How is it spreading? What are the symptoms thus far? Are they getting worse? Track the infection alongside The Beast and Wolverine and discover the extent of it's danger as it spreads through the neighborhood.
Use this post to plot out what you want to do. We'll be setting up the OPEN event log shortly with a reminder of everything going on. So it's up to you whether your characters want to have a relaxing day at a concert or work to help the sick in District X.

A Sinister Legacy - Wrap Up
Due to both the late start time and other factors, the mods have decided to post the results of the Sinister Legacy Part 2 log. The official results of the events are as follows:
The Hellions will have successfully entered the core of the Institute and revived No Girl, regaining control of the school security systems from Sinister.

Sinister himself, however, will have escaped in the meantime in one of the emergency vehicles in the hangar, taking Renko and her bodyguards with him. Their current whereabouts are unknown.

Whatever Sinister was using Beast's labs to create is currently unknown, but whatever it was, Nightcrawler was exposed to it during his attempts to rescue Xavier and the others, and is currently in the infirmary.

Beast and Wolverine have recovered from their injuries. Beast is focused on finding out what Sinister has done to Nightcrawler, and Wolverine handled the SHIELD situation.

Nick Fury was not happy to leave empty handed, but he's grateful that SHIELD and the X-Men have a mutual enemy now in Sinister, rather than being on opposite sides of a potential battlefield.
These are the major plot points that should be established from here on out, with more details unfolding as we move on. IF SOMETHING MAJOR HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER DURING THE EVENT, POST ABOUT IT BELOW. This way we can all start posting again.

With recent drops, it has come to our attention that half of the War Games threads are permanently stalled.

With that being said, we want to give folks an opportunity to discuss the results of the War Games Round 1 battles, since it seems unlikely any of them will be threaded to completion. Just go ahead and use this post for that plotting purpose. Alliteration!

A Sinister Legacy
As you no doubt saw here the prisoner exchange has gone... Badly. To say the least. This leaves students of the school with a few options on what to do!
1. Help the SHIELD agents on the front lawn survive against the school security systems! This will be combat heavy and will involve NPC assists from Nick Fury

2. Help protect other students, and those who can't fight, get to safe places! Not every section of the school is as automated as others and there are places that Sinister's infection of the security systems hasn't reached. This can be combat heavy or not at all, and will involve NPC assists from Storm

3. HELLIONS your girl No Girl needs help. Also the Professor and Logan. Your job is to head to the sublevels and break in to the most heavily secured area of the school and stop whatever is causing things to go haywire, and possibly stop Sinister himself from whatever he has planned. As usual, you will be assisted by Emma
You can use this player to plot out what your character will be doing. We'll be setting up the OPEN event log shortly, with a reminder of what all is going on, plus a subthread for the Hellions rescuing the Professor. IF YOU ARE AN X-TEAM, WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU AND YOUR TEAMMATES BE ON THE SAME PAGE ABOUT WHO WILL BE DOING WHAT! Have fun, and once again, we apologize for the delay!

The X-Day Riots
As President Kelly said in his address the day after the incident, March 1st 2019 is a day that will live in infamy. Mass Media has taken to calling it the "X-Day Riots" or "March Xth". The death count during the riots were incredible, and the National Guard now actively occupies District X and it has been made priority to bring all Friends of Humanity AND Mutant Liberation Front domestic activities in the US to an immediate end. The MLF has been driven from Mutant Town West, and several FoH strongholds have been raided and group leaders arrested. The immediate, game relevant results of the event are thus:

All Quiet on the Homefront: Due to crackdowns, violence and rioting have quelled significantly. The FoH and MLF have both gone quiet in the US. President Kelly has called this "national gang war" and seeks to end it as soon as possible. Very are few are seemingly satisfied with this solution on either side of the fence...

Claudine Renko: Is currently in the X-Men's custody, along with her two bodyguards Forearm and Reaper. All three are in holding cells in the sub-levels, but no visitation is allowed. Renko is not actually a prisoner, as she herself committed no crimes, and is free to leave whenever she wishes, but has wisely taken Xavier's advice and is using the Institute as temporary asylum. After all, someone clearly wants her dead out there.

X-Teams: There will be significantly more emphasis put on this as we move forward. Right now only a few teams exist, but we hope to have several as we go along. More on this as it develops, and of course we will touch on this again in the Weekly Update.

The Teams
The mods have gone over all the volunteers and selected these individuals for the two teams. Considerations of character compatibility and whether or not they had major roles in previous plots were considered, as well as not wanting to have players with more than one character in either or both teams. This resulted in the Infiltration team being four instead of five.

PEACEKEEPING:
Bridget
Luvander
Greg
Takakage
Liir

INFILTRATION:
Nora
Raven
Hijikata
Eddie

The IC briefing post will be going up shortly and will be backdated to WEDNESDAY. You can use this post to continue plotting and, as always, feel free to ask any questions!

The Mutant Liberation Front
It's time to deal with the oft mentioned MLF with our latest plot. When the Friends of Humanity backed off after the loss of Sebastian Shaw as their primary weapons provider, the Mutant Liberation Front stepped up their own activity. They have been 'taking over' mutant ghettos across the country, most notable Mutant Town West in San Francisco and District X in New York City.

If you read the log between Xavier and Emma, you'll know that they've discovered a few interesting things. The first is that Claudine Renko is the identity of the Mutant Liberation Front's founder and alleged highest ranking member. They also discovered that she was the one acting as the go-between from Shaw Industries to the Friends of Humanity, selling them weapons in an apparent attempt to escalate tensions between the two factions.

So it's time to get some answers, and in true X-Men style, they're going right to the source. That alleged MLF rally in District X is definitely happening and Emma has it on good authority that Claudine Renko will be making a personal appearance.

The Plan
The plot will be carried out, once again, in three phases. Though they will not be entirely interconnected this time. Largely, it's two different approaches to the same problem.

Team 1: Peacemakers. Charles will be leading this group, a group of five, in an attempt to diplomatically resolve the situation, to try to come to terms with the MLF and end the violence if they can. Charles believes that Renko is doing this because she believes in what the MLF is doing and wanted to bring the battle between themselves and the rest of the world to a head. This will require good talkers, and individuals with some empathy/empathic ability if needed. And ESPECIALLY people that the MLF would trust, people they have no reason to turn away for being traitors to the mutant cause.

Team 2: However, Emma's findings leads her not to trust Renko at all and thinks there's something more sinister going on. She's forming an infiltration team that will attempt to get answers through subterfuge and, if possible, interrogation. This might get a bit violent when the inevitable fighting breaks out, and will definitely be wearing the blue and gold.

The rest: Everyone else who wants to attend the event will just be in the audience, witnessing the rally. When the riot breaks out (sorry for the spoilers, but you had to know this was going to happen), they'll have the choice of either jumping into the fray to try and save people caught in the cross fire, or make their escape.

The Sign-up
If you wish to be on the Peacemaking or Infiltration team, please let us know here. This is a significantly smaller group compared to last time, with a limit of five slots per team, so it is very important you consider whether or not your character has something to offer to either team before signing up. If you DO sign up, please let us know why you feel your character qualifies for either team.

If you just want your character *attending* the rally, you don't need to sign up, but we encourage you guys use this post for plotting purposes and comment anyways. And as always, questions will have their own sub-heading.

A Day for Lovers
We neglected to mention this on the Weekly Update but we DO have a plan for V-Day! On the day itself, an open log will be thrown up for the traditionally lovey-dovey greeting card/chocolate shillholiday. The event will be featuring a guest appearance by former instructor, ex-Hellfire Club member, and current runner of her own school, Emma Frost! And she has... some ideas.

Namely, we're gonna have a DATE AUCTION! Tomorrow, Emma will be making a network-wide announcement for it, stating the guidelines. Given students have limited income, usually based in stipends provided by the school, they will all be sponsored by the trusts of both Xavier's school and her own. AKA, they can go pretty nuts with the betting. And all generated proceeds will go towards District X relief efforts and mutant social activism!

As for how it's going to work, basically fill out the following form and post it below:

If you want to have a pre-determined winner for your character, hash it out in the comments! If you have any questions, a subthread will exist for that. Sign up and we hope you look forward to it!

A Helping Hand..
Obviously not every character could, or even still will, participate in the Hellfire Club event. However, we have an alternative event available for everyone else, plus all of our new characters!

As has hopefully been made obvious over the last few news posts and updates, WINTER IS HERE and it sucks. Probably the coldest on record for the Northeastern region of the US in many many years. The weather has left many people in District X without proper power or heating, and reasonably priced food is getting harder to come by as well as the weather forces prices to rise to account for the cost of getting food into Manhattan. This has created a big strain on volunteer forces there, in addition to the socio-political climate being terrible as well. Breakouts of violence, both between the FoH and residents and even residents fighting among themselves, are common.

So what are the X-Men going to do about it? They're going to help. As much as they can anyways. While Nightcrawler leads the missions into the Hellfire Club, Storm will gather a group of students and faculty to help in District X.

This can include anything from working the soup lines, to giving out donations of clothing, to helping repair non-electric furnaces, and using their powers in creative ways to help with any of these tasks. Unfortunately, they'll need muscle and security as well, given the Friends of Humanity are bound to come out the woodwork once word of the X-Men helping out in District X comes out...

SO! If you want to have your character help out the needy or get into a scuffle with highly armed bigots, feel free to sign up here!

The Hellfire Club
Hello True Believers! As promised (sort of) this is the write-up/sign-up for the upcoming January event involving the Hellfire Club.

For those that don't know, the Hellfire Club is a super elite social club for the biggest movers and shakers in the world. Their leader is the Black King, Sebastian Shaw, who has had his fingers in a lot of plot pots lately. Shaw Industries funded Project Wideawake, the government program that brought the Senitnels that destroyed the school five years ago. He busted Bolivar Trask out of federal prison to work on even more anti-mutant technology. The powersuits worn by the U-Men were from Shaw Industries. And the high tech weapons used by the Friends of Humanity in the mall log? All came from him. And he's a vocal proponent of Mutant Registration.

So it's high time the X-Men got to the bottom of this Shaw guy. What game is he playing? What are his plans? His goals? Is he trying to start a war he can profit from? We're going to find out with this upcoming event.

The Plan
There are three stages to the plan. It should be noted that faculty AND students can both sign up for roles in any stage of this plan, but selections for who participates in what will be decided on a number of factors, including powers, specialties, and overall player willingness to commit to activity for the event. Aside from Nightcrawler and Shaw himself, there will be no major Mod NPCs involved.

STAGE 1: Information Gathering. A group will need to pose as neophyte socialites and mingle/rub elbows with the rich and famous of the Hellfire Club in an attempt to find out where the Black King conducts his private business. Rich people thrive on gossip, so with a convincing enough act, it should not be too difficult to get at least one of them to spill the beans. Especially after a few hundred dollar cocktails...
The mods will contact a random player to let them know they'll score the info, and players are more than free to NPC their own Hellfire Clubbers. They're all Pawns, anyways, so there's no real need to get too fussy over them.

STAGE 2: Infiltration. Cue the Mission Impossible theme. We know where Shaw's Inner Court hides, but getting to them isn't going to be easy. Security is extremely tight. Traps abound. Possibly killer robots. It's almost as if Shaw expects powered heroes to try and invade his privacy...
Once again, players will be free to control the action here. The main goal is obviously to navigate the facility, avoid making too much ruckus, and make a clear path for the confrontation team that Nightcrawler will teleport in.

STAGE 3 Confrontation. Shaw will not go down easily. There will be a fight. This will be a small team, so as not to crowd the log, versus Shaw and the Inner Court. Afterwards, he will need to be interrogated to finally get down to the bottom of what's going on (assuming he is defeated).
This will involve heavier Mod NPCing. More on Shaw than on Nightcrawler, who is mostly there just to get the team in and out.

The Sign-up
With all that said, now it's your turn. Please respond to this post with which character you're volunteering, what their powers are, what their specialty is, how willing you are for them to be injured, and which stages of the mission you would prefer to have them on if any preference exists. Once again, this is open to both faculty and student level characters, so feel free to sign up anyone you feel would be a fit for the mission.

Hello, True Believers!

We'd just like to inform everyone that the Xavier Institute is going to be looking for a couple (that is TWO) Members of the faculty to go over to Great Britain and investigate the bombing that took place there.

This is only open to faculty members, and not to the general student population, as there is the possibility of students being in danger.

Please comment on this post if you're interested in taking part!

EXCELSIOR!

EDIT: RNG has decided the two that will go. Fai and Spy will be heading to London.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone that reserved/apped/helped make this opening a success! There are a few things we'd like to announce after our first week open, SO let's get that out of the way.

Firstly, EVERYONE NEEDS TO MAKE SURE THEIR CHARACTER IS ON THE TAKEN PAGE, DIRECTORY, AND CONTACT PAGES! We know a few people haven't commented to them so please please do. People have not done so by the time the first AC check comes along (September 25th) will be considered in fraction of AC, so definitely get that done.

Also, if you play a student, make sure we have you on the housing page correctly.

Lastly, if you checked the Calendar, you know we have Club Week coming up! Before things get rowdy in this game, we want characters to have a chance to group up in special interest clubs like any normal school, which is what Club Week will be about. Clubs can be freakin anything you want, of course. We're pretty adventurous. But more importantly, this will be the time to start forming potential X-Teams. Expect a post from Principal Munroe at some point today to explain things ICly. We'll also be taking questions below.

Reserves open again in October, so be sure to tell your friends!
