THE TEST DRIVE MEME
Hello, True Believers!
This is for anyone wanting to test out their characters in the setting before the applications open, see what clicks. Multiples will be allowed for this post, and you can generally assume any threads are a self-contained continuity unless you feel like getting creative.
Just post a thread with your CHARACTER NAME and CANON NAME in the title with a prompt and others will reply. Prompts and threads can be action spam or prose or whatever. These threads can be used on the sample section of your application, as well. Go out and have fun!
Be sure to read up on all game information and the "!event" tag, as well as the weekly updates to make sure you have all your ducks in a row.

He spun in a slow circle, examining the area, enjoying the sun. He lifted his arms as he spun.... and fell when that took his walking stick off the ground. He hit the grass, face first. "Not going to let it get me down!" he said cheerfully as he pulled himself back to his feet.

Guillaume Sorel | Morning Glories
[Guillaume isn't exactly keen to socialize with the other students at Xavier's, but he was the one who was chosen to attend the school nonetheless, so he's been making an effort to spread his Father's word from time to time. It's exhausting, constantly being treated like some sort of crazy cult member for knowing the truth, but he's been raised to expect this. At the end of the day, if these people cannot accept reality...then they're only hurting themselves, and they've proven themselves to be faithless and weak-willed enough that they deserve none of Guillaume's respect.
Really, if they had any sense they'd be grateful that he's patient enough to keep trying to "educate" them despite any negative reactions. He'd much rather just let them be ignorant fools on their own, if he didn't have this responsibility placed upon him.]
I know many among us don't know or choose to ignore the fact that we mutants are God's chosen people, but as we face registration acts, anti-mutant groups attacking us, and plenty more...I offer you this:
The chosen are always going to be tested, no matter how unfair that makes things. Good things wait beyond this for those that rise to the challenge.

Re: Guillaume Sorel | Morning Glories
But what to say. Well, it seemed like she, whoever she was, liked to argue her point, give speeches, try to convince people. So, what if he sounded like someone who could be convinced? Would he get to see some of that dedication shine through in text? Would she visit him personally? He could live with that.
So a question without accusation, something to imply interest without fully agreeing. He tried to think of how his brothers would answer. He thought first of Jacob, and then shook his head rapidly. Dominic then? Nope, just as bad. Alright, no help for it but to answer as himself and hope for the best. And if whoever it was happened to look like Jayden or Pam...]
"I thought that all were tested, and all were chosen?" he finally decided on. "How is one to know that one group is favored over others, are not those that are chosen simply those who pass their tests and are good people inspire of all temptation otherwise?"
[The odd thing was, as much as he loved pious women and had volunteered at any number of church functions, both with and without his mutant power, he himself was not the most pious. He knew many beliefs from many parts of the world, and while he was prepared to agree with many people, he had a hard time looking at a belief system and saying "That's wrong". He was a cheerful walking contradiction, he supposed. When he remembered he needed his walking stick to walk, that was. Otherwise, he was cheerful falling contradiction.]
Nora Valkyrie | RWBY | 11th Grade
Nora.... SMASH!
[Whump, and the final training dummy is hit with such force you can see the ripple in the air from the impact as the kinetic energy is released and air is displaced. If this equipment wasn't made for people with ridiculous abilities to beat up like this, you could imagine the state the room would be in from the way everything recoils from an impact like an explosion. Nora herself comes off the ground as she hits it, but lands on her feet a second later, swinging what appears to be a huge, probably very heavy warhammer that's almost as long as she is tall (and she's not very tall) onto her shoulder.]
... Ooooooo, it's still holding! [Apparently, she is not used to this idea, but it pleases her. She turns and waves in the general direction of the control room - whichever poor staffer got begged, prodded, pleaded, or cajoled into letting her have Magnhild back and take it out for a spin in a training environment is now being cheerily waved at as the training regimen shuts down.]
--
[B: Network; video!]
Good moooorninnng~ [Yes, she sings the 'morning' part. It's complete with a dramatic hand gesture. Yes, she's a morning person.] It's a fine Tuesday morning here at the Institute, and I just wanted to let everyone know that, yanno, the Friends of Humanity are being really mean, and this whole Mutant Registration thing is kinda looming, and everything looks really really bad, but the best possible thing just happened!
The cafeteria is serving pancakes this morning! Also I think I had a dream I was the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, but I was playing croquet and I didn't send the ball flying three neighborhoods over! Ehehe, funny story about that... but I gotta go get breakfast now, so bye! [Yeah that's all she wanted to say.]
--
[C: Action, around campus.]
[It appears as though Nora is looking for something. What, precisely, is not clear, but she's searching high and low, and for once isn't grinning... constantly. Just mostly. So have a pint-sized bruiser who is probably lifting up couches and maybe a car or two in the parking lot trying to search for... well whatever it is she lost. Ask her about it?]

Re: Nora Valkyrie | RWBY | 11th Grade
Gregory had been giving himself a tour of this place, leaning heavily on his staff as he walked, his limp worse than usual today, his leg paining him. He stopped when he heard the familiar, and gleeful, sounds of destruction.
The glee that something hadn't broken, with the implication that it meant breaking it would be all the more fun had him turning his head. And he saw the way she was dressed, and the destruction. "RACHEL!?" he asked, over joyed. Then he saw her face and sank a bit. Ah well, not Rachel Hart, but who knew, this girl could be fun too. And she was kind of cute... Not that he would ever date anyone who reminded him so much of his best friend, that would just be weird.

[Flandre had been on that couch until this moment! And was busy reading and mostly oblivious to the rest of the world until the ground started moving.

Meiling Hong | Touhou Project | 11th Grade
[In a corner of the Rec room is a pile of school books and a few notebooks across a table, along with a lump of red hair who seemed to have been trying to get some work done. Unfortunately, it looks like even with the TV going loudly, Meiling has failed to stay awake. It's obvious who is behind the volume as the remote is beside her. Who knows how long she has been here..maybe she's missed a meeting or something..
There was an attempt here...]
[Network-Visual]
Well..I guess it's safe to say that this place is both the weirdest and most accepting school I've ever been in. I mean, Still get the teasing and some amount of trouble but not as much as on of my old schools.
[The redhead leans back on a chair and balances on the two back legs for the moment.]
I guess it's more because this is more for people who get the whole mutations bit more then do your schoolwork and don't be different type. Kinda cool..even though I feel silly being where I am in the school and being so much older...

Normally they looked a bit less dead, especially with the TV up that much. And just taking the remote to turn it down seemed rude, even if the volume hurt Flandre's ears a little.
So there's a clawed hand on Meiling's shoulder, trying to shake her awake.]
Hey--up!
You're going to hurt your ears that way, you know.

Morgiana | Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
In between classes, you heard a shout from above. A moment later, a young girl with bright red hair fell out of the sky (or more accurately, out of the window four floors above you.) and landed on her feet with an earth shattering thud. Literally earth shattering, there were cracks in the ground around her feet.
She dusted herself off a bit, then looked at you apologetically. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you until it was too late. I didn't mean to startle you, but I was in a hurry."
-2-
Morgiana always wanted to help, to be useful. So when she heard that there was some large scale landscaping projects that needed doing on the institute's grounds, she dove in. A moment of absent mindedness had you bounce off of the skinny teenager, who had no less than six of the big bags of fertilizer balanced carefully on her head. She took a step back to catch her balance, but the unsteady mass above her head was already destabilized.
There were about three seconds before it started raining 50 pound bags of organic fertilizer on you both.

Re: Morgiana | Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
1 - Not Spark.
2 - Right. He needed the walking stick to... well... walk.
They would probably hit the ground at about the same time. He rolled over, glanced up, saw a girl, and rolled face down again. Skirt or pants, didn't matter, no way he was looking at a girl from this angle, so close to her feet. If she didn't kill him, and he didn't kill himself... well he wasn't sure who would get to him first, his brothers, his father or... he shuddered. He hadn't even looked, not really, and he could feel his mother giving him the eye. Even across the world!
Then he realized, as he rolled to his feet, that the earth was broken. If not Spark, then Rachel? Oh man, she was going to laugh at him forever for blushing. Had he blushed? He wasn't sure. HE sat up before letting himself look at the girl. Okay, not Rachel. Cute, though.
"Hi, had a nice autumn?" he asked.

Kuroyukihime | Accel World
[Standing in front of a window, gazing out at the grounds is a girl with very long black hair, although that's not likely what you'll notice at first. Rather, her most noticeable feature is an enormous pair of striking black and pink butterfly wings on her back.
She doesn't seem to be paying much attention to anything as she stares out at the beautiful scenery. It was different than the city, that much was certain. It wasn't really a complaint, but she did miss what she'd left behind. However, it was not lost. When she was done here, she would return.
Finally, she glances back at whoever might be approaching.]
Hello there.
B.) [Video]
[What better way to introduce yourself to the other students than through the net? Kuroyukihime puts on a smile as she begins speaking.]
Good afternoon, fellow students and teachers of Xavier's. As you might guess, I am new to this educational facility.
As such, I would like to extend a thank you to those who have already greeted me, and a hello to those who have not.
I've heard wonderful things about this school, and I hope to make the most out of my time here.
[And she will indeed do her best to do that.]
I look forward to meeting the rest of you.

Re: Kuroyukihime | Accel World
He had finally shaken himself free of the nagging internal voice that sounded way too much like big brother and soon to be sister-in-law for his liking, when she had glanced back and spoken. Well, he was stuck for it; at least she was cute. What he could see of her from this angle, anyway.
"Hello here," he replied with a grin, leaning on his walking stick.
Slayer | Guilty Gear | Instructor
[Slayer parks himself at the counter, poetry book in hand along with paperwork. Normally, he'd do this kind of work in his room or classroom, but the kitchen's empty during school nights. It's a perfect area to work when he can't sleep. Besides, he's hungry, so he's helped himself to some poor sap's chips and salsa. Also, he really shouldn't have a lit pipe inside the school.]
B. [Video]
[There's a bespectacled gentleman waving at the screen, and behind him is a chalkboard with an elegantly written haiku:
Unprecedented
Devoid of reason and thought
I follow my dream]
Good afternoon, students.
Remember, your short stories are due by the end of this week. You have until the end of the class period to turn them in, and I won't accept late work unless you have an acceptable excuse. "You can't rush the creative process" is not one of them. Nor is turning in your work on a napkin. I'll only consider those for poetry assignments.

Patchouli Knowledge | Touhou Project | Librarian
[The current librarian is the kind that takes her job seriously. She will of course lend her aid if a student is willing to learn, but if they're too noisy, keep bringing in books late or, god forbid, damage the books somehow, she will make her displeasure known. Often this will involve the use of her powers.]
B [Text]
I would like to remind both students and faculty that some of the books here are delicate and irreplaceable. Please refrain from keeping your borrowed books past the due date, other students may want to use the books in question.
Re: Patchouli Knowledge | Touhou Project | Librarian
Aqua walked into the library, looking for an English translation of one of the texts she hoped to assign her students. She headed for the philosophy section, trying to recognize a tome she was familiar with a handwritten version of, among all the professionally published volumes.

Nezumi || No. 6
He doesn't buy it for a second. A free school, that housed and fed you, all full of mutants? And they were supposed to believe this wasn't a catch? That this wasn't the perfect bait to get them all in one place so they could get rid of all of them at once? After all, once somebody was found to be a mutant, they were usually homeless, jobless. Now, a place popped up that was supposed to house them, feed them? So, he was expected to believe this was some kind of safe haven? Anybody who believed that was hopelessly naive.
He figures that's probably most of the students here.
Though he's more than happy to keep to himself while he looks for the library, he nonetheless eyes most who get too close suspiciously. Not all mutants were good, having weird DNA didn't make you a better person, but unlike people without powers, it was harder to gauge their aptitude until they'd revealed their abilities. Most of all, he was doing his best to look like he knew where he was going.
Re: Nezumi || No. 6

Gilbert Cocteau | Kaze to Ki no Uta | Grade 9
[Gilbert is a little enamored with the MLF's infamous logo.
On the intermittent occasions when he's actually forced to attend a class, it finds its way into the margins of whatever assignment he's supposed to be working on - usually in place of the work itself. He delicately loops the double helix around itself, before adding underneath, in sharp but pretty lettering, the "Liberate!" Or, in his case, "Libérer!"
It's a reminder of the first place he'd seen it, graffiti'd repeatedly across Paris. Auguste had called the artists responsible then "fools" and "vandals," but he couldn't help but like it. It had felt good, knowing that the rest of the world was forced to stare them in the face for a moment like that. And it feels good now, as a reminder that not all mutants are wilting and in love with humans, like the ones he's been forced into school with here.
So, when he ducks out of last period today and finds himself bored in one of the dormitory lounges, he has that symbol dancing through his head and a red pen ready at hand in his book-bag. Someone, poor soul, has left their class-notes set out in the room, tucked away in a binder, too.
Gilbert draws it over into his lap, sprawls back against the couch's cushions, and begins to
deface someone else's schoolworkdoodle. Algebra isn't nearly important as mutant liberation, now, is it?][Video]
How does one get out into the city from here?
[Gilbert has his (school-loaned) laptop set out on his desk. He's propping his arms across it, one folded over the other, head leaned forward against them as he mugs for the camera a bit with a sweet, charming smile. He is not mentioning that, what with the whole "uncontrolled, socially dysfunctional, near-Omega-level empath" thing, he is emphatically not allowed out into the city. He is not mentioning that he doesn't necessarily plan on coming back tonight or tomorrow or until it suits him, really. He doesn't particularly care that teachers might see this.
He tilts his head to one side and answers his own question:]
A cab, non? We're too far for there to be buses coming past. But I don't have fare...
If someone could lend me enough - or drive me - I would be very grateful. I'd be sure to pay you back. Somehow.
Re: Gilbert Cocteau | Kaze to Ki no Uta | Grade 9
Gregory had no clue why he was heading to the dorm lounge, just that his brother said something about saving someone's homework from a red pen. What Dominic thought he was going to do to stop a teacher was beyond him. But here he was, walking down the halls. One of these days he would figure out how Dominic wrapped everyone around his little finger like this. He's all "I had a vision!" and everyone hops to. Being the little brother of a grumpy seer was annoying.
He came into the dormitory and saw the red pen first, since he'd been looking for it, but if that was a teacher he was a talking cat. Gregory beamed his brightest smile, which was quite impressive. "Oh! Is that my homework?" he asked. "Been looking everywhere for it!"

Krista Lenz | Attack on Titan | 10th Grade
[A young girl, probably in high school, is smiling shyly at the camera, sitting at her desk in her dorm room.]
I guess I should introduce myself, since I just transferred here...
My name is Krista. It's nice to meet all of you! [And for a moment, she looks a little lost as to how to continue, before lighting up and continuing:]
That's right -- I wanted to ask, would anyone be interested in going to volunteer in District X on the weekends? Or, are there any places here in town that need help? Please let me know if you know of anywhere...
Thank you!
[B - Action]
She really wasn't used to so many people being around.
It wasn't so bad as she'd expected. None of them reacted to her in the way she'd grown so used to over the years -- no sneers, no taunts, no mud, no thrown stones. Many of them spoke to her the same way that they seemed to speak to each other, and it was...
It was confusing, quite honestly. She was afraid at every turn that she was going to say something that was going to expose how little of an idea she had how to speak with peers -- that she'd end up giving a whole new group of people new excuses to hate her.
But so far, she hadn't. She'd smiled, been polite and kind and warm, and... And so far, it seemed to be enough.
The uncertainty of it all was fairly exhausting, though, so she found herself wandering out on the grounds with pockets full of birdseed, bundled up in all the winter clothes she had to her name. She found a bench, cleared it off, and began to scatter the seeds in the snow in front of her, smiling as the birds began to gather around.
Animals were so much simpler than people. It was so easy to make them happy.
Re: Krista Lenz | Attack on Titan | 10th Grade
Rhia was sitting in the trees, above the bench where Krista sat. She had frowned at first, still not thrilled with all these weird two-leggers coming and going, and their lack of respect for nature, but when she saw the girl tossing seeds to the birds, she reconsidered.
Rhia watched for a while, unspeaking, observing the birds and their reactions to her, and to the seeds. After a while, she was convinced that the other person meant to help the birds, not harm them. She dropped from the tree onto the bench beside her.
At first it would look like a clump of leaves had broken free to fall on the bench, then she extracted herself carefully, the arms and legs each covered in clothing made of woven vines with bright green leaves, the skin the color of bark, the brown hair bedecked with green leaves. Rhia could have passed for a tree herself, if not for the blue-grey of her eyes. She smiled brightly at the other girl once her limbs were sorted and settled, and made a small wooshing noise at her.
